Alicia Silverstone Is On A Kind Diet

Alicia Silverstone promotes her new cookbook, “The Kind Diet: A Simple Guide to Feeling Great, Losing Weight, and Saving the Planet” at Book Soup in West Hollywood on Thursday (October 15).

The 33-year-old vegan actress was supported by her rocker husband Christopher Jarecki at the event. The book includes 75 natural vegan recipes and a three-step diet program that Alicia believes differs from other popular diets.

“What those diets offer you is weight-loss period,” said Alicia. “And yeah, weight loss is good. But you’re not learning how to eat, you’re learning how to eat less. I haven’t had to think about calories in 11 years. That’s what I want to offer people — a plan that is going to nourish your soul and make you healthy on all levels.”

Why is this woman always in the news?

She’s amazing, concerning both her character and look. She looks healthy and glowing. I’m a vegan myself and I can only agree with everything she says, I don’t care about calories, I don’t work out besides riding my bike to university and I still feel great, at the right weight with great hair and skin. Everyone should at least give it a try.

  • Pitt-iful loons

She’s rude and in everyones face with her fanatics.

  • liverwurst

@Anna: you don’t worry about calories because all you eat is vegetables and grains which is very unhealthy. Vegans have a very high infertility rate…why aren’t you posting about that?

  • La sigh.

LOL! Funny how her publicist didn’t forward pictures of the “crowd” which is because there wasn’t anyone there but her own people. Ha!

@liverwurst Actually, even though I’m a meat eater cause I truly like eating it, I have to acknowledge that a properly done vegan diet is healthier for a person than a meat-centered diet. And it’s not all veggies and grains really, you make it sound like the vegetarian diets of 30 years ago when there were no alternatives other than tofu and grains and veggies. Although I’ll disagree with her interview with Larry King when she said some thing she served him was ‘pure protein’. No, I am sure that was not 100% protein.. so Alicia, you’re cute and all, but please don’t resort to hyperbole to try to make a point. In short, a vegetarian diet would help the world a lot in terms of resources. The resources used on a meat animal could feed many more people than the meat from the animal. Yet as I say, I am unlikely to change my omnivorous ways, but I am interested in easy to find and inexpensive alternatives for some of my meat dishes.

holy half-dead. looks like she gave the grim reaper a blow job.

Bravo!!!!!!!! For all the crap some of these pseudo-celebs spew, Alicia is speaking the truth!

I went vegan 1 & 1/2 yrs ago and have NEVER looked or felt better. I have more energy and have reduced my biological age significantly.

My cousin did the same, lost tons of weight and his doctor is very impressed that he took 12 yrs off his biological age.

This meat based protein diet myth is propoganda…..pure and simple. Think for yourself, read books on the topic and educate yourself.

“And yeah, weight loss is good. But you’re not learning how to eat, you’re learning how to eat less.” – Alicia is right on this. It sounds logical.

  • bubbaness

She chunked out a bit a few years back so I seriously doubt she’s NEVER worried about calories.

  • me

I cannot wait to get this book this weekend! Everyone would benefit from eating a lot less meat and processed crap.

  • madi

Hmm.. I couldn’t really see Alicia Silverstone caring enough about this, but it could be interesting. I wonder how the book will do.

  • rossum

she is obssesed with the vegetarian diet, its so lame. Everytime she opens her mouth is to talk about the same stupid diet she follows

  • J. Ryan

    @La sigh.:

were you there to see this yourself?

  • Who Cares

She really should have worn something that was brighter. She looks all washed out and pasty.

Veganism is a huge commitment and I think it’s admirable. If she can help people make it easier, more power to her. Realistically, if you aren’t eating meat and dairy made by local farmers, you’re a part of the factory meats system, which is disgusting and terrible for the planet. People are offended by this, but it’s a pretty simple. Not that I have the conviction to be a vegan or anything, but I’m definitely into eating local.

  • lola

    Blah, blah, blah :/

Don’t eat animals it’s unkind? Tell that to them, they rip each other apart all the time.

Weight control isn’t about dieting. It’s about portion control, not a ton of empty calories and exercise. Common sense!

I like some junk food but I don’t eat tons of it. I’m 5’9″ and weigh 123lbs and don’t have a problem keeping it that way. I eat meat, and any other thing I want.

This doesn’t really have anything to do with this post in particular, but I just read read a post about Angelina Jolie in some new movie and the thing that stuck out the most for me is that she is only THIRTY-FOUR. Seriously, can you believe it? She looks like she is in her forties and starving herself!

And then I read this and saw that Alicia Silverstone is 33, only one year younger. I’m not advocating veganism, because there are a lot of other actresses who manage to look their age who aren’t vegans, and veganism honestly doesn’t sound that healthy for your body, but Angie really needs to do something.

And I know that all of her defenders will be on my back about how she gave birth to three kids and adopted three more, but my sister is in her late forties, has given birth to a set of triplets and another child a year later, has a full-time job, and still manages to look younger and healthier than Angie by jogging and making healthy, well-rounded meals everyday.

So, there’s my spiel. Make of it what you will.

I’m not really an Alicia follower, but I will say that she seems to be very passionate about her vegan thing and animals and I like that. It’s a lot better than running around half naked, falling over drunk, or being famous just because you wear overpriced stuff. Not to mention, I notice she wears little-to-no makeup and, for her age, she looks incredibly young. Yes she’s a bit pale and washed-out looking, but I can’t even begin to imagine how some of these other stars who cake it on must look without anything on their faces. Actually, Alicia is starting to grow on me. She’s quite a bit of a hippy and even if she can’t stop talking about her diet it’s far more inspiring than hearing about some other people’s over-hyped lives.

She ruined the Batman and Robin movie. –

  • Mariana

    She’s real. She’s great.
And, yeah, she’s admirable about her vegan diet.
Just because it’s good for animals, for us and for the whole planet.
And I don’t really care about what stupid people used to say. Meat is murder.
I’m not a vegan, but I wanna be, for a while I’m a happy vegetarian.
I must stop with the cheese and milk. And I will.

  • Jessie

Don’t be put off. Whether you like her or not she has a point. Eating less meat–or no meat–does have a positive impact on the environment. Just like the United Nations reported: Livestock produces more greenhouse gases than all worldwide transportation COMBINED. (Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations 2006)

If Americans were to reduce their meat consumption by only 10 percent for one year, it would free at least 12 million tons of grain for human consumption–or enough to feed 60 million people, (Don Paarlberg, a former U.S. assistant secretary of agriculture). In other words we can make so much food available for humans that, properly distributed, it would greatly eliminate starvation and malnutrition from this planet.

These are just a few positive things. Eating less meat benefits much, much more than one may care to realize.

I think everyone should at least get a chance to try what she says in her book. Among other things,The Kind Diet is about being kind to yourself. You’ll see.

I’m still a big Alicia Silverstone fan even though she is not famous any more. I’m glad she is still active and writing a book about weight loss. Yeah there are a lot of ways to lose weight and like a million different diet plans out there. I hope her book is really informative, I’m sure she will do a great job with it. Personally for me I had to struggle to lose weight myself and burn off the excess fat around my waist. It took a lot of will power diet and exercise to do that.
