Nina Dobrev graces the cover for the October 2012 issue of Seventeen magazine, out on newsstands now!
Here’s what the 23-year-old Vampire Diaries actress had to share with the mag:
On her character’s abusive relationship in The Perks of Being a Wallflower: “It is a really heavy topic, and I hope my character gives girls some perspective. I think more than anything, girls allow abuse to happen because they’re embarrassed it happened and that they allowed it to happen. They know its not right. Let’s say a girl gets into an argument with her boyfriend, and he hits her. In the heat of the moment, she’s shocked, but when she has time to cool down, she thinks, ‘Well, I egged him on. It’s kind of my fault.’ She starts justifying why it happened and then making excuses for it. But there is no excuse for it. That’s why it’s so important to show girls that they can admit that its not their fault.”
On her relationship with Ian Somerhalder: “The first time I was on the cover of Seventeen, the cover line said ‘Nina: Why she wouldn’t date any of her co-stars.’ And then cut to two years later…its funny that I said that, but you know what? It was honestly what I believed at the time. I didn’t want to be dating one of my costars—my goal on the show was to be professional. But sometimes you can’t help who you have a connection with, and you can only fight it for so long—which I did for a really, really long time.”

I like her and all but something is just a little off. Ian goes home because Issac flooded the area he grew up and Nina went to disneyland with the girls. They are both beautiful people but I just wonder if there together for the show to bring attention to the show.

Exactly. I don´t ship because shipping for me is putting someone or a relationship into a pedestal, but Kinda I liked them and followed them, but time has passed and for me if you really pay attention they don´t act like a couple in love.
Love Nina’s Seventeen Magazine Photo Shoot! She looks gorgeous as always. Nina and Ian are a fantastic couple and are very much in love. It is refreshing that Nina has been speaking publicly lately about her relationship with Ian. She just couldn’t help but fall in love with him and that is certainly understandable. Ian is genuinely a great guy.

@kelly: Ian went to Louisiana because there is a problem with the land he wants to purchase for the ISF Animal Sanctuary. There is another developer that wants to buy it for an industrial park and waste dump. It was a fairly quick trip and there was no reason for Nina to interrupt her once a year “girl’s weekend” plans just for that. Good Grief! Ian and Nina have a healthy relationship not one that is controlling and codependent.
I don’t blame u ONE BIT Nina for finally giving in to Ian! lol Trying to resist all of that would be absolutely IMPOSSIBLE, so I appreciate that u were trying to be strong!! lol

After TVD??? I would say before TVD ends… are they together now??, this interview was made months ago, and it means nothing. Watching them how the behave everyday when there are not cameras, thats the big deal. Don´t expect them to appear together any time soon.

@Me I think they’re in a relationship but it’s not that serious like stans are making it out to be. They have their own dreams and goals and will do anything to make them happen, especially Nina. Ian isn’t going to dump Nina before the end of TVD. First because he’s super afraid of TVD going south ratings wise, second because he doesn’t want trouble on the set for himself and third it’s nice to have someone striking his ego from time to time. Yes, dear crazies, Ian isn’t a saint :P He keeps moaning about being killed on LOST. Man, move on! It’s possible that Nina could do the dumping before TVD’s end if she finds someone who would be of advantage to her career. But I don’t see it happening simply because she’s not in HW often enough to make any kind of impression on big players. And let’s be fair she ain’t Blake Lively in looks department.
My only guess is that she’s coming out with the whole relationship story to keep people interested in. Honestly, she’s more on beige side, she looks good, has nice hair and body but people forget about her. Or even worse, they think she’s either that Chikri or Justice girl. I’m not saying this to be mean or out of spite, but it’s the truth. The only time she’s more talked about on this site is when she’s either with Ian in pics or when she mentions him in interviews.
Why people go to so much effort to write and post awful things about Nina and her relationship with Ian?I don’t understand is why would anyone waste their time and energy on being hateful and negative towards someone they don’t even know and whose live and decisions have absolutely zero impact on their lives?She is gorgeous girl,Ian is gorgeous man,beautiful couple.I love her and this shoot!
1. Nina is discussing her relationship with Ian because it literally makes her talked about, but what you all find cute, isn’t. What she’s really doing here is making herself look dominant. She decided when the relationship began officially, and since he is desperate to marry her, she will decide when they get married if at all.
2. Now on her discussion about abuse what she said there was… cool and true, but acting only gives you an idea and of course, you can study and talk to people who have experienced it, even deal with the situation hands on, but you can only sympathise with them. You don’t really understand the pain because you never felt it. Also there are different aspects and levels of abuse, so good for her on getting an idea of what abuse is about.
@Natalie You’re right about how it looks from the outside – Nina was the one who made moves and Ian just helplessly fell in love with her because she’s so cute, great, sexy, smart, bla blah. *eyeroll* The truth is she pursued him and and most likely Ian cheated( emotionally for sure, if not physically) on Meghan with Nina. That’s why they were hiding and lying to press about their relationship for more than a year. As for marrige, Ian doesn’t want get married nor have kids in next couple of years. He said it himself more than once on Twitter but I guess crazies believe what ever they want to believe to keep the fantasy going in their heads. Sigh.
