Gary Beach Dead - Tony-Winning Broadway Star Dies at 70

Gary Beach has sadly died at the age of 70.

The Tony-winning Broadway star died on Tuesday (July 17) in Palm Springs, California. His death was confirmed by his agent to Playbill.

The acclaimed actor earned a Tony in 2001 for Best Featured Actor in a Musical for his take on The Producers‘ Roger De Bris. He also played the role in the 2005 film adaptation alongside Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick. He returned to Broadway that same year, making him the first actor to play the same role concurrently on both Broadway and film.

Gary also played Lumiere in the Broadway premiere of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.

He first started on Broadway as an understudy in the role of Edward Rutledge in the original Broadway cast of 1776, which he would eventually take on full-time.

Our thoughts are with Gary‘s loved ones at this difficult time.
