Rodrigo Santoro: New 'What to Expect' TV Spot!

Here is what the 36-year-old What to Expect When You’re Expecting actor had to share with the mag:

On his role as Jennifer Lopez‘s husband: “The character’s name is Nate, [which is] not Latin. That was written completely American, but it ended up being me. So I don’t really feel like things are so narrow. Of course, I have my accent, and I will be a foreigner, but it doesn’t have to be ‘Brazilian’ or ‘French’ or ‘Italian’ per se. So, things are more open in that way, and that feels good.”

On producing and starring in the biopic Heleno: “The director said, ‘Well, you should produce with us.’ I said, ‘I don’t know about that; I’m an actor.’ The process was exhausting because I was acting at the same time, but it taught me a lot. Once we started shooting, I told them, ‘Look, I’ve got to focus, because I’m playing this character now. So don’t ask me, like, how many extras we can have tomorrow.’”

On preparing for a role: “Research is the time that I have to play, to explore, to learn about life in general. It’s not just work! I try to get as close to possible to understand what’s going on without judgment. If you judge while you’re creating a character, you’re probably not going to find the humanity for that character.”
