The 23-year-old actress sat down and chatted with us about her new movie Pitch Perfect, acting, and her upcoming projects.

Pitch Perfect centers on The Barden Bellas, “a collegiate, all-girls a cappella singing group thriving on female pop songs and their perfect looks. After a disastrous failing at last year’s finals, they are forced to regroup. Among the new recruits is freshman Beca, an independent, aspiring DJ with no interest in the college life. But after she meets Jesse, from the rival all-male a cappella group, Beca has a new outlook and takes it upon herself to help the Bellas find their new look and sound and get back into the competition.”

The movie also stars Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Brittany Snow, and Elizabeth Banks.

ALEXIS KNAPP – EXCLUSIVE JUSTJARED.COM INTERVIEW

JJ:How did you get into acting? Who are some of your favorite actors?
AK:Sam Rockwell, Patrick Stewart, Jennifer Connelly, and Malcolm McDowell. I grew up with extensive and very serious classical training in dance, (ballet was core), musical theatre and opera singing, instruments (piano, flute, violin). Always knew I’d be performing, just could never settle on a skill. I fell in love with acting when I became fortunate enough on set of the film Couples Retreat to be bumped up from a featured extra to actual lines and got to improv with some of the stars. That’s where I caught the bug. There are no known cures at this time..

JJ: What was your favorite scene to shoot for Pitch Perfect? Would you ever pursue a music career? What kind of music do you listen to?
AK: My two favorite scenes actually got cut out of the movie due to time. One was when I performed a singing telegram dressed as a reindeer. The other was some very weird and outrageously hilarious improv with the “Ron Jeremy” look alike character in the film. A music career was in my life plans long before acting ever was, and it still is. Hopefully in the near future I will have some time to dedicate to music, my passion for it never dissipated.

JJ: How is the Cavemen shoot going? What’s your character? Any funny moments on set between castmates yet? What’s it like to work with Skylar Astin again?
AK: I’m working with a very cool cast, it’s been an absolute blast! You hope that every other moment on set of a comedy like this is overtly funny, and in this case it is. Skylar and I became very close friends on Pitch Perfect, we’re super comfortable with each other so to work with someone so familiar is a very fortunate thing in this business. Besides, the guy’s mega talented.

JJ: What are some of your favorite things to do in LA? Do you watch
any TV series religiously?
AK: Korean bbq, xbox & PC games, spending qualíty time with my closest friends, family and pets. Currently, Star Trek, Breaking Bad, and Big Bang Theory.

JJ: How do you juggle being a working mom? How do you strike the
perfect balance?
AK: There is no perfect balance. As a young, single working mother with a sporadic and intense schedule, you take on each day as they come, and hope to be the best mother you can possibly be. I break my back for my daughter, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

JJ: What other projects do you have coming up?
AK: I begin filming my pilot Cinnamon Girl at the end of this month. This is hands down the most anticipated project I’ve ever been a part of. It’s a period piece set in the 60′s/70′s of Hollywood. I play the actress of the show, Lola Jones. I’m more excited than words can simply express, I wish I could share more. Then I’ll be doing a film in NYC called Julia. I play her, a shy and sheltered rape victim who reincarnates into an unstoppable killing machine. That will be unlike anything I’ve ever done before, cannot WAIT to start handling knives. Always been a tad obsessed with weaponry. I own a Katana at home!
