On living life: “I don’t think there’s such a thing as happily ever after…You need the ebb and flow of life. you need the good days along with the bad days in order to experience something and stay even-keeled.”

On turning 50: “I’d much rather be 50 than 20. Life gets much easier.”

On playing McDreamy and leaving a hit show: “When you’re on a long-running show, you’re pulling the same beasts over and over again. It’s very hard to make new discoveries the longer you’re there… It was ten years of never being in control of my own schedule…I’m definitely not McDreamy; I’m not a perfect person. I’m a human being with flaws and issues like everyone else.”
