Kacey Musgraves Opens Up About Her Divorce from Ruston Kelly for First Time

Kacey Musgraves is talking publicly about her divorce for the first time.

The 32-year-old Grammy-winning country star spoke candidly about splitting up with ex-husband Ruston Kelly after two years of marriage, simply saying, their marriage “just simply didn’t work out.”

“It’s nothing more than that. It’s two people who love each other so much, but for so many reasons, it just didn’t work,” Kacey explained to Rolling Stone. “I mean, seasons change. Our season changed.”

“Part of me questions marriage as a whole, in general,” Kacey continued. “I mean, I was open to it when it came into my life. I embraced it. I just have to tell myself I was brave to follow through on those feelings.”

Kacey and Ruston announced they were divorcing back in July 2020. The two first met in 2016 while attending a songwriter showcase at the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville and married back in October of 2017.

Despite the split, Kacey and Ruston have remained friends. In August, Ruston shared a sweet post in honor of Kacey‘s birthday.
