'Army of the Dead 2': Zack Snyder Talks Sequel Plans, Plus Spinoffs Revealed!

The new zombie movie Army of the Dead, directed by Zack Snyder, is streaming now on Netflix and fans who’ve watched it definitely want to know details about the possible sequel.

A sequel hasn’t yet been confirmed, but the movie leaves off with a major cliffhanger that will likely set off a crazy story for Army of the Dead 2.

Snyder has already opened up about his plans for a potential and two spinoffs have already been confirmed.

First, let’s talk about those spinoff projects!

Army of Thieves is a prequel to Army of the Dead and it focuses on Matthias Schweighöfer‘s character Ludwig Dieter, the German safecracker. It has been described as a “romantic comedy heist film.”

Matthias not only reprises his role in the movie, he also directed the film. Netflix says that in the movie, a mysterious woman recruits bank teller Dieter to assist in a heist of impossible-to-crack safes across Europe. A release date has not yet been announced, but the movie has already been filmed.

Snyder is also working on an anime-style series called Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas, which will feature many of the film’s cast members providing voice-overs. Other actors who joined the voice cast include Vanessa Hudgens, Joe Manganiello, Christian Slater, and Harry Lennix.

So, what will happen in Army of the Dead 2, if it happens?

“I’m knocking on wood right here, but if there was an opportunity for a sequel, Shay [Hatten] and I know exactly what happens with that. We’ve done a long and hard look at where that movie would go, and it’s pretty crazy,” Snyder told Screen Rant.

He continued, “I’m working right now on an animated prequel that tells the story of where the zombies came from, so we get to go back to Area 51 and go all the way. And that’s crazy and cool, and it’s a hard R animated adult animation. And then Matthias [Schweighöfer] did Army of Thieves in Europe during Corona, and that movie’s just finishing now. His is like a romantic comedy heist film, so it’s cool that it’s a genre-busting bending [film], but it’s just a separate genre. Now, of course, if we were to do a sequel to this, it continues the zombie story. It takes it even further.”
