2021 Emmy Awards Will Feature Limited Red Carpet Amid COVID-19 Concerns

The 2021 Emmy Awards will be slightly different this year amid concerns about rising coronavirus cases.

Last week, the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences announced that guests attending the awards show would be required to show proof of vaccination.

According to a new report from People, the organization will also be making some changes to the red carpet in order to ensure the safety of attendees.

“Out of an abundance of caution and for the safety of Emmy nominees, guests and media, the number of production personnel and staff must be limited at this year’s 73rd Emmy Awards,” the Television Academy said in a statement released Friday (August 6).

They added that “there will be a very limited red carpet for talent arrivals,” with only around a dozen media outlets allowed.

The Academy also said that they will be working with CBS to create a virtual media center to replace traditional on-site media coverage, which will “allow media outlets to connect directly with Emmy winners as they are announced.”

The ceremony will air on CBS on September 19 and will feature a live audience with a “limited audience of nominees and their guests.” Cedric The Entertainer has been tapped to host.
