Halle Berry Reveals Which Actress Was Originally Attached to Play Her Character in 'Bruised'

Halle Berry looks glamorous in a black and gold mini dress for an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Monday (November 15) in Hollywood, Calif.

During her interview, the Oscar-winning actress discussed her directorial debut Bruised, in which she plays a disgraced MMA fighter named Jackie Justice.

Halle revealed to host Jimmy Kimmel that there was originally a different actress attached to star in the movie.

“My agent just gave this to me. When I got the story, another actress was attached to it. This was for Blake Lively,” she recalled. “Because originally when I got the script, it was written for a very young, Irish-Catholic white girl.”

She continued, “I said to my agent, ‘But I love this. I have to play this part. I mean, not like this. I have to reimagine it, but I’m gonna do this.’ And she said, ‘Well, it’s Blake‘s right now, so if Blake, you know, decides to give it away, pass it up, you’ll be the first person you come to.’”

“So I had to patiently wait for six months until Blake decided it’s not something she wanted to do, and then,” Halle trailed off, making a hand motion that implied she slid into the casting.

“Did you call Blake at any time and go, ‘You made the right choice — I’m being beaten, I’m choking people out, I’m throwing up regularly,” Jimmy asked as Halle laughed. “This is ridiculous!”
