Tom Welling Briefly Addresses Allison Mack's Prison Sentence While Discussing 'Smallville' Return

Tom Welling briefly addressed the prison sentence of his Smallville co-star Allison Mack while discussing a possible return of the series.

The 44-year-old actor appeared at Fan Expo Vancouver last weekend and was asked during a fan Q&A if he’ll ever reprise his role as Clark Kent.

Tom said that an animated series is in the works and he hopes the original cast of Smallville will return. He then joked it might be hard for Allison to participate though.

For those who don’t know, Allison is currently serving a prison sentence for her role in the NXIVM sex trafficking scandal. She played Clark Kent’s best friend Chloe Sullivan in all 10 seasons of Smallville.

Tom previously announced the animated series in a Cameo video he recorded in June 2021.

“Michael Rosenbaum and I are actually working on an animated series to bring those characters back to life, and use as many of the original cast members as possible,” he said at the time. “Don’t tell anybody, though. It’s a secret, we’re still working on it.”

At Fan Expo, Tom said, “We’re working on an animated series that picks up right after our Smallville [Season 10], and, again, telling our own story and our vision is that we get Erica [Durance back as Lois Lane]… it might be tough to get Allison.”

That mention of Allison was the only way he addressed her prison sentence.

“But even Sam Jones III and Lionel Luthor is going to be a big part of that. John Glover wants to do it, we’ve already been into this,” he continued (via Screen Rant). “We’ve already gotten animation, we just don’t have the stories yet because Al [Gough] and Miles [Millar] are busy doing Tim Burton-like movies. As soon as they are done with that, we’re going to do this. I want to be Clark’s voice, I want Erica to be Lois’ voice, that’s going to be the fun of it. I think there’s a story that Al and Miles are going to tell that’s individual and new and call it a Multiverse thing. But let’s see where it goes, and it’ll be fun.”

In the meantime, Tom just landed a new role a couple weeks ago.
