The Real Anna Delvey's Deportation Didn't Actually Happen as Planned - Here's Why

Anna Delvey‘s whereabouts have been discovered after she seemingly went “missing” on the day of her planned deportation.

It was reported on Monday (March 14) that Anna, who is the real-life subject of the Netflix drama series Inventing Anna, was scheduled to be deported to Germany after being in ICE custody for the past year.

An app that allows people to communicate with inmates in ICE detention had sent out a notification to let Anna‘s friends and family know that she was released from custody.

Anna was scheduled to arrive in Frankfurt on Monday night, but she never arrived.

People reports that Anna‘s “deportation failed at the last moment when [she] refused to leave for the airport while her lawyers filed a motion to stay the decision.”

Is anyone else picturing the scene in Inventing Anna when she refused to go into the courtroom until she had clothes she liked?!

Anna‘s defense attorney Manny Arora told NBC News, “Legally, they should not be able to deport her until the 19th. That is due to the deportation order being signed on February 17 and that allows us to have 30 days to file an appeal. But we are dealing with bureaucracy, and there are numerous filings in her case so you just never know if there was a paperwork error.”

An ICE spokesperson confirmed that Anna is still being held in a detention center in New York, “pending removal.”

German outlet Der Spiegel reports that Anna‘s deportation is now delayed, but U.S. authorities are trying to plan a new date.

The attorney told the New York Post, “I spoke to Anna this morning. She was confused and a little concerned. It’s hard [for her] to understand all the bureaucracy, especially given she’s locked up in jail for 20-plus hours a day and doesn’t have control. When you don’t know what your future holds, when you can’t call people when you want to to get information, it makes you anxious and frustrated. She’s staying positive, but it’s hard on her.”
