Following the formal announcement of This Is Us ending with its sixth season, Dan shared with press why it was the perfect amount of episodes and time for the show to be on the air.
He told The Hollywood Reporter years before that “We never set out to make a television series that was going to last 18 seasons, so we have a very direct plan.”
Just recently, Dan opened up about the decision again.
“It’s not because we don’t have any more story to tell,” he said during a Television Critics Association event. “It’s because we exactly planned it to go this way.”
Dan went on, “We’re on a five‑year path, and to suddenly pivot and add more because we don’t want it to end, it wouldn’t be quite responsible to the show and what we have planned, and it would start becoming something else.”
