Alexis Bledel has confirmed her exit from Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale.

Variety reports that the 40-year-old actress, who played Emily in the series, will not return for the upcoming fifth season.

Alexis portrayed Emily in the series for all four seasons.

Emily, an escaped handmaid and refugee in Canada, was known as Ofglen when she was still under Gilead’s rule. She was last seen in the season four finale alongside June and other former handmaids to get revenge on Gilead.

“After much thought, I felt I had to step away from The Handmaid’s Tale at this time,” Alexis shared in a statement. “I am forever grateful to Bruce Miller for writing such truthful and resonant scenes for Emily, and to Hulu, MGM, the cast and crew for their support.”

Alexis is married to actor Vincent Kartheiser, whom she met on the set of Mad Men. They share one child together.
