John Legend Admits Friendship with Kanye West is Damaged After Trump Support & Presidential Run

John Legend is opening up about his strained relationship with Kanye West.

If you didn’t know, John, 43, and Kanye, 45, used to be close friends and often collaborated on music together.

However, the two hit a rough patch after Kanye started showing a lot of support for Donald Trump after he won the 2016 presidential election, who John has very vocally admitted he can’t stand.

In a new interview, John admitted that Kanye‘s support for Trump – and his failed run for president in 2020 – really damaged their friendship.

“Well, you know, we aren’t friends as much as we used to be because I honestly think because we publicly disagreed on his running for office, his supporting Trump, I think it became too much for us to sustain our friendship, honestly,” John shared on The Axe Files podcast.

John went on to say that Kanye was upset that John didn’t support him when he decided to run for president in 2020.

“I wasn’t alone in that, but, you know, he was not happy about that,” John recalled. “And we really haven’t been close since then.”

“I think he’s been very open with who he is and his struggles with mental health. And he’s very real, honestly. So I think there’s not a lot about him that people don’t get,” John explained. “Like he’s been pretty upfront with his opinions, his struggles, all the things that he’s dealing with. And I think what you see with him is pretty much what you get.”

When asked about Kanye and Kim Kardashian‘s divorce in an interview last year, John‘s wife Chrissy Teigen admitted that she speaks to Kim more than John speaks to Kanye.
