America’s Brandon Nakashima Wins ATP’s Next Gen Finals in Milan

Brandon Nakashima is the champion!

The 21-year-old Japanese American tennis player defeated Jiri Lehecka of Czech Republic during the final on Day Five of the Next Gen ATP Finals held at Allianz Cloud on Saturday (November 12) in Milan, Italy.

Brandon scored the winning point on the first of three championship points when Jiri hit a forehand long, 4-3 (5), 4-3 (6), 4-2.

Brandon, who was born and raised in San Diego, California, is the first American and 5th person to win the title, following in the footsteps of Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz (2021), Italy’s Jannik Sinner (2019), Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas (2018) and South Korea’s Chung Hyeon (2017). It was Brandon’s second appearance at the Next Gen Finals, having lost to fellow American Sebastian Korda in the semifinals last year.

“It’s been a great season for me. I’ve definitely learned a lot with every match, with every tournament,” said Brandon, “Of course at the beginning of the year I had some goals, to win my first ATP title and to be able to do that in San Diego was super special. To finish off the year here with the title at the Next Gen is super special. I think the whole year for me has been very consistent.”
