Will Smith Completely Understands If Audiences Are Not Ready To See His New Movie 'Emancipation' After Oscars Slap

Will Smith shared his thoughts on audiences who may not be ready to watch him in the upcoming film Emancipation after slapping Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars.

“I completely understand that if…someone is not ready, I would absolutely respect that and allow them their space to not be ready…My deepest hope is that my actions don’t penalize my team,” Will told Kevin McCarthy.

“My deepest concern is my team – Antoine [Fuqua] has done what I think is the greatest work of his entire career. The people on this team have done some of the best work of their entire careers, and my deepest hope is that my actions don’t penalize my team. At this point, that’s what I’m working for,” he said.

“I’m hoping that the material – the power of the film, the timeliness of the story – I’m hoping that the good that can be done would open people’s hearts at a minimum to see and recognize and support the incredible artists in and around this film,” Will added.

Mila Kunis was in attendance at the 2022 Academy Awards and she was one of the few people who did not give Will Smith a standing ovation when he won the Oscar for Best Actor.

The trailer for Emancipation debuted in October. It will be streaming on December 9 on Apple TV+.
