Get to Know ‘Kimberly Akimbo’ Breakout Star Justin Cooley with These 10 Fun Facts! (Exclusive)
Justin Cooley is making his Broadway debut in the new musical Kimberly Akimbo and he’s certainly the breakout star in the show!
The young actor moved straight to New York after finishing high school in 2021 to be part of the new musical. He was discovered at the 2021 Jimmy Awards, which are also known as the National High School Musical Theatre Awards.
Kimberly Akimbo follows Kim, a bright and funny Jersey teen who happens to look like a 72-year-old lady. And yet her aging disease may be the least of her problems. Forced to maneuver family secrets, borderline personalities, and possible felony charges, Kim is determined to find happiness in a world where not even time is on her side.
Justin plays Seth, one of Kim’s classmates who becomes a romantic interest.

- I am 1/4 Native Hawaiian, my Hawaiian name is Keoni, I don’t really use it but it’s cool to have!
- Personality profiling (Enneagram, Myers-Briggs, Buzzfeed Quizzes) is so fun to me. I could give a Ted talk on astrology, I’m a Cancer Sun Virgo Rising Aries Moon, for those who get it.
- My character Seth in Kimberly Akimbo plays the Tuba. I was also a music kid in middle/high school! In band and choir before I tried acting, I played the trumpet! I also play a little guitar now!
- I binged watched cartoons and anime growing up, the imagination and expression that goes into it is so powerful to me, if I wasn’t an actor I’d want to write my own cartoon series.
- My top Spotify artist has been Steven Universe for the past 3 years. Besides that, I like a lot of indie and modern rock music.

- I moved straight to New York after finishing high school in 2021, the last role I played in high school before debuting in Kimberly Akimbo was Evan Goldman in 13 the Musical. It was a crazy jump to say the least!
- I’m have a small crystal and geode collection, I’ve always liked rocks, I used to spend hours digging in mud puddles and dirt as a kid in hopes of finding fossils or treasure.
- I feel like in my past life I was a humming bird, or chameleon. I’d also say ferret but I think that’s just my favorite animal, I want a pet one so bad.
