“It was an interesting journey not only for me, but for my whole family and community to go through,” Nick said. “But I think coming out of that and getting my glucose regulated, I wanted to make it a priority to speak and advocate for this disease, for young people and, you know, all people living with both Type 1 and Type 2.”
Nick also discussed the important relationship between physical health and mental health. “Mental health is a very important conversation that affects every aspect of all of our lives,” he told the Austin American-Statesman in an interview. “When you compound that with something like diabetes, there are naturally going to be things in overlap with that.”
Mental health therapy showed him how much he could “improve [his] life both mentally and physically” and noted that “for young men, it’s an important thing that can be overlooked.”
Nick recently collaborated with Dexcom for a 2023 Super Bowl commercial in order to promote continuous glucose monitors because they have improved his quality of life. “Once CGM (continuous glucose monitors) came into my life and became a part of my management of my disease, things got a whole lot easier,” Nick said. “I am incredibly grateful to have this technology and be in a spot where I’m getting readings so frequently. I think back to the times when I was pricking (my finger) 10 to 12 times a day.”
His wife Priyanka Chopra recently gushed over him, calling him her “greatest champion.”
