WWE Legend The Iron Sheik Dies at 81

Pro-wrestling legend and Hall of Famer The Iron Sheik has sadly passed away at the age of 81.

The news was confirmed on Wednesday (June 7) with a statement posted to the WWE legend’s official Twitter account.

“Today, we gather with heavy hearts to bid farewell to a true legend, a force of nature, and an iconic figure who left an incredible mark on the world of professional wrestling. It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of The Iron Sheik, but we also take solace in knowing that he departed this world peacefully, leaving behind a legacy that will endure for generations to come,” the statement read.

It continued, “Today, we gather with heavy hearts to bid farewell to a true legend, a force of nature, and an iconic figure who left an incredible mark on the world of professional wrestling. It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of The Iron Sheik, but we also take solace in knowing that he departed this world peacefully, leaving behind a legacy that will endure for generations to come.”

The Iron Sheik, who’s real name was Hossein Khosrow Ali Vaziri, was famous for his battles against Hulk Hogan, Bob Backlund and Sgt. Slaughter.

He is survived by his wife Caryl, to whom he was married for 47 years, and his children Tanya, Nikki, Marisa and son-in-law Eddie. RIP.
