While on I’m Literally Screaming with Spencewuah, Alyson recalled speaking with their managers about coming out.

“I felt like ‘OK, I wanna do this.’ But I spoke to my managers about it, who happened to be Christians, and so I was like, ‘OK, I know that there’s a potential risk here,’” they said. They added that their team “was very loving and supportive.”

They said that the team was “helpful in me understanding that there are risks if I do this. It’s totally my choice, but it could affect not only people’s perceptions but also, like, hireability for jobs.”

Sadly, they said that was the case.

“I did end up getting fired from a children’s show,” they said, adding that “they felt that I was unsafe now that they knew I was queer to be around kids. So, there was definitely discrimination there, but the beauty far outweighs the hate comments and death threats.”

After coming out, Alyson revealed that they willingly enrolled in conversion therapy. They also revealed what led to their decision to check into rehab.
