Pete Davidson Recalls Heartbreaking Conversation With His Mom That Inspired His Sobriety – Watch Now
Pete Davidson is opening up about his sobriety journey.
While appearing on Theo Van‘s This Past Weekend podcast, the 31-year-old Saturday Night Live alum, who has been sober for more than a year, recalled a heartbreaking conversation with his mom Amy Waters Davidson that encouraged him to get clean for good.
Keep reading to find out more…“My mom’s the most supportive person in the world,” Pete shared. “And it got to a point where she called me when I was in rehab and she was like, ‘My biggest fear is that I will turn on the news and I’ll see that my son has died.’”
Pete went on to admit that he found the phone call had a huge impact on him.
“She’s so supportive and wants to always have positivity around,” he explained. “That killed me. So I was like, ‘Alright, can’t die until she’s dead.’”
Pete also said that since his dad Scott Davidson died during the September 11 terrorist attacks in New York City, he refuses to let his mom experience anymore heartbreak.
“I’d have to be a f–king sociopath to not get my s–t together,” he added.
He also noted that there were many people in his life that helped him get sober.
“Anybody that’s actually loved me and cared about me has gotten the worst wrath from me,” he explained. “Like, ‘F–k you, leave me. Go ahead, leave me.’”
However, Pete went on to say that he realized that his family and close friends was done putting up with what he called his “deranged” behavior.
“I was like, ‘Oh s–t you’re calling my bluff,’” he recalled. “And I love you and I don’t want you to go away.”
As he prepares to welcome his first child with girlfriend Elsie Hewitt, Pete said, “Thank God I’m sober and where I am,” adding, “I’m very grateful that it happened now and with Elsie.”
While starting a family has been a goal for Pete for a long time, Pete said that without sobriety, “There’s no f–king way that was possible.”
