Why Conrad Ricamora was cut from the movie

Conrad Ricamora, best known for his role on TV’s How to Get Away with Murder and his Tony-nominated performance in Broadway’s Oh, Mary!, was set to play Andy’s roommate in the sequel.

Conrad took to his Instagram account on April 29 to explain why he was cut from the film after having “one of the best working experiences” of his life.

“Getting to work with the icon Anne Hathaway, the genius Aline Brosh McKenna, all the while being directed by the steady hand of David Frankel will forever be on the highlight reel of my life. However, in the end, my character didn’t make sense in the grand scheme of the film (something about me being too sexy and hott and my muscles being too big…story of my life),” he wrote on Instagram.

Variety reports that Conrad’s character “didn’t survive test screenings as audiences kept questioning why Andy needed a roommate at all. While a storyline about Andy’s crappy apartment still stands, the final film instead leans into her spending time at her old friend Lily’s (Tracie Thoms) place, a dynamic that hearkens back to the 2006 original.”
