Roseanne Barr has a new television comedy in the works!

The 73-year-old actress and comedian has reportedly finished filming a new eight-episode family comedy series titled Meemaw, eight years after she was fired from her ABC sitcom Roseanne.

According to Page Six, filming took place in Austin, Texas last November, with Roseanne raising money from private investors to make the show.

The comedy follows Roseanne as the head of a mixed-race family of preppers in Texas. Her character is determined to throw a big bat mitzvah for her granddaughter.

“It’s every bit as revolutionary as The Roseanne Show, if not more, and my work has improved with time,” she told Page Six in a statement.

Several familiar stars are joining her in the cast!

The reported cast includes Randy Quaid, Drea de Matteo, Omar Gooding and Doug Jones.

Jon Lovitz, comedian Tony Hinchcliffe and Kim Congdon are also reportedly making guest appearances.

Social media sensation Indy Bugg plays her granddaughter, whom she says Mo’Nique brought to her attention.

“She’s such a star. You’ll see it in the first episode, in her first scene,” Roseanne gushed to Page Six.

Roseanne worked on the show with Allan Stephan and Allen Covert, according to the report.

The series is described as partly based on her own life, including her Jewish family background and experiences living in Texas.

“It’s now more John Waters,” she teased of the show’s tone to Page Six.

She also said that her daughters are “super woke,” so she put jokes in the show for them as well.

“I make fun of everybody ’cause everybody deserves to be made fun of who’s in power. So, I’ve got some great jokes about Republicans that the lefties are gonna love. I’m an equal opportunity destroyer,” she added.

Where will Meemaw air, and when is the premiere?

A network, streaming service and premiere date have not been announced.

The project was independently financed rather than ordered by a major television network, and it is not yet clear when viewers will be able to watch.

Why was Roseanne Barr fired from Roseanne?

In May 2018, ABC canceled the revival of Roseanne after the comedian posted a racist tweet about Valerie Jarrett, a former adviser to President Barack Obama.

The series later continued without her as The Conners, which concluded its seven-season run in April 2025.

Roseanne has continued to work on projects outside traditional network television since her firing, but Meemaw marks a new effort to return to scripted comedy.
