Josh O’Connor Reacts to James Bond Casting Rumors, Reveals How He Feels About Possibly Playing 007
Josh O’Connor is opening up about the possibility of becoming the next James Bond.
The 36-year-old actor, known for his roles in Challengers and The Crown, is among the stars reportedly being considered to take over the iconic role following Daniel Craig‘s departure from the franchise.
During an appearance at the opening of the Everyman Theatre’s new education and community center in his hometown of Cheltenham, England, Josh was asked about the ongoing casting speculation.
While he didn’t confirm whether he’s actually auditioning for the role, he made it clear that he’s flattered to be mentioned as a potential 007.
What Did Josh O’Connor Say About the James Bond Rumors?
Speaking to the BBC, Josh described being considered for the role as an unexpected honor.
“To be considered in that same sort of bracket is extraordinary,” he said.
He also called the experience an “incredibly bizarre pinch me moment,” explaining that simply having his name mentioned alongside other potential Bond actors was exciting.
However, Josh declined to elaborate on whether he’s been involved in the casting process.
“But I am afraid, there is nothing to say beyond that,” he said.
Josh previously addressed the Bond rumors in January 2025, explaining that the speculation originally gained momentum after he joked about potentially playing the character.
At the time, he insisted that he wasn’t aware of any plans for him to take on the role.
Who Else Is Rumored to Be the Next James Bond?
Josh is reportedly among several actors being considered for the upcoming movie, alongside Jack Lowden and Callum Turner.
The actors have been linked to reports about the franchise’s latest round of screen tests, although Amazon MGM Studios has not publicly confirmed which performers have auditioned.
Jack also recently addressed the casting speculation, describing the attention as flattering while declining to add to the rumors.
The next Bond movie will be directed by Denis Villeneuve, known for his work on Dune, with a screenplay from Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight.
There is also no confirmed release date for the upcoming film.
