Helen Mirren throws her dress into the air on the carpet at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences’ 2015 Governors Awards on Saturday night (November 14) at the Ray Dolby Ballroom in Hollywood.

The Oscar-winning actress was joined at the event by her Trumbo co-star Bryan Cranston.

Other stars in attendance at the event included Mr. Holmes co-stars Laura Linney and Ian McKellan, Grandma‘s Lily Tomlin, 45 Years‘ Charlotte Rampling, Elisabeth Shue, and director David O. Russell with his dates, Virginia Madsen and Diane Ladd.

The annual event is the big kick-off to awards season and honors special Oscar recipients a few months before the big show.

The talented trio presented director Spike Lee with an honorary Oscar.

Brie Larson, Carey Mulligan, and Saoirse Ronan walk the red carpet at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences’ 2015 Governors Awards on Saturday night (November 14) at the Ray Dolby Ballroom in Hollywood.

All three of the ladies are contenders for the Best Actress award at the Oscars next year and they all looked stunning at the event!

Brie was joined by her Room co-stars Joan Allen and Jacob Tremblay, who are both getting awards buzz for their performances as well.

“Thanks everyone for congratulating me on my win #ufc,” Amy joked that night on Twitter about people confusing her for Holly Holm, who beat out Ronda Rousey.

Will Smith and Idris Elba are all smiles while posing for photos together at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences’ 2015 Governors Awards on Saturday night (November 14) at the Ray Dolby Ballroom in Hollywood.

The actors were joined at the event by Will‘s Concussion co-star Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Idris‘ Beasts of No Nation co-star Abraham Attah and director Cary Jojo Fukunaga.

Also in attendance at the event were Straight Outta Compton actor O’Shea Jackson Jr. and director F. Gary Gray, as well as last year’s Selma star Common and director Ava DuVernay.

Rooney Mara and Cate Blanchett walk the red carpet at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences’ 2015 Governors Awards on Saturday night (November 14) at the Ray Dolby Ballroom in Hollywood.

The ladies were there to support their movie Carol. The night before, they attended a SAG-AFTRA Foundation conversation at the Pacific Design Center to promote the film as well.

Rooney was nominated for an Oscar a few years ago for her work as Lisbeth Salander in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and she still wants to play the character again in the planned sequel.

Despite rumors that Alicia Vikander is up for the role, Rooney told E! News that “as far as I know, I’m doing it until someone tells me otherwise.”

Billie Lourd holds her grandmother Debbie Reynolds‘ honorary Oscar while on stage at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences’ 2015 Governors Awards on Saturday night (November 14) at the Ray Dolby Ballroom in Hollywood.

The 23-year-old Scream Queens actress was at the ceremony alongside her mom, Star Wars actress Carrie Fisher, to accept the award for Debbie, who was too sick to attend the ceremony.

Meryl Streep was in attendance at the show to present the statue to Billie, who played an audio acceptance speech that Debbie recorded for the occasion.

“I’m heartbroken that I’m unable to be there in person to receive this extraordinary honor you have given me. So you could see how unbelievably happy you have made me. If joy could be weighed, this would be the most sizable rejoicing one could feel, especially if that one is me,” Debbie said in a statement.
