Sad news for fans of Fantasy Island.

On Tuesday (May 9), Fox announced that they were cancelling the reboot series – starring Roselyn Sánchez, Kiara Barnes, and John Gabriel Rodriquez – after two seasons.

Fantasy Island is back!

The Fox drama series returns for a second season on Monday (January 2) at 8 p.m. ET.

The show takes place at a luxury resort, “where literally any fantasy requested by guests is fulfilled, although they rarely turn out as expected. Delving into the ‘what if’ questions — both big and small — that keep us awake at night, each episode will tell emotional, provocative stories about people who arrive with dreams and desires and depart enlightened and transformed through the magical realism of Fantasy Island.”

The series stars John G. Rodriguez as Javier, and actress and singer-songwriter Roselyn Sanchez as Elena Roarke, a descendant of the iconic Mr. Roarke, who set aside her own ambitions, and the love of her life, to uphold her family’s legacy.

Kiara Barnes also stars as Ruby Akuda, a young woman with an old soul who arrived on Fantasy Island with a terminal illness and was given a new lease on life as Roarke’s right hand.

Roselyn Sanchez is heading back to TV!

The 48-year-old Devious Maids actress was signed on to star in Fox’s upcoming reboot of Fantasy Island, TheWrap reports.

Roselyn will be playing Elena Roarke, a descendant of Ricardo Montalbán’s character Mr. Roarke from the original series, which aired from 1977 to 1984 on ABC.

Elena is described as “sophisticated, insightful and always charming,” with a “calm exterior [that] masks the challenges of the responsibilities she has assumed as steward of this mysterious island.”

According to Fox’s description, “The reboot is a modern semi-anthology series that delves into the ‘what if’ questions, both big and small, that keep us awake at night. Each episode will tell emotional, provocative stories about people who walk in with a desire, but end up reborn to themselves through the magical realism of Fantasy Island.”

It has previously been announced that Kiara Barnes and John Gabriel Rodriquez will also appear in the Fantasy Island reboot.

The Fantasy Island reboot is expected to premiere on Fox on August 10th.

Maggie Q, Michael Pena, Austin Stowell, Portia Doubleday, Jimmy O Yang, Ryan Hansen, and Michael Rooker also star in the movie. You can see it in theaters on February 14!

An exciting new television reboot is coming to television – get ready for a new take on Fantasy Island!

The classic show, which ran from 1977 to 1984, will get a reboot featuring a female lead in the Mr. Roarke role originated by Ricardo Montalban.

The potential series “will follow a brilliant, dynamic and sexy woman who runs a San Francisco-based company that provides clients with his/her most intimate, dark or outlandish fantasy,” according to THR.

Jennifer Klein is executive producing the drama alongside Sheldon Turner, who is writing the pilot.
