The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts has announced its 2021 honorees!

Five honorees were selected to receive the 2021 Kennedy Center Honors for lifetime artistic achievements, the organization announced on Wednesday, January 13.

This year’s honorees are choreographer and actress Debbie Allen, singer-songwriter Garth Brooks, actor Dick Van Dyke, singer-songwriter Joan Baez, and violinist Midori.

The 2021 Kennedy Center Honors will be held from May 17 to May 22. Due to COVID restrictions, The Kennedy Center is planning for in-person medallion ceremonies with a limited audience, along with several virtual events. However, plans may change depending on the state of the pandemic in the spring.

“This past year has taught us many things, including the need to be flexible and adaptable,” Kennedy Center President Deborah F. Rutter said in a statement via THR. “They say necessity is the mother of all invention. The unusual circumstances inspired and opened up new ways for us to present a deeper experience, and hopefully understanding, of the art and lifetime work of our Honorees. 2020 has also shined a bright light on the impact of how art and culture speak to our collective human experience. It can meet us at any moment and sustain us during the most challenging days.”

CBS will be airing a primetime special of The 2021 Kennedy Center Honors on June 6th.

This isn’t the first time that Kelly Clarkson has performed “Shallow” from A Star Is Born, but she has someone very special by her side this time!

The 38-year-old Grammy-winning superstar performed the Oscar-winning song on the latest episode of her talk show, on which Garth Brooks was the special guest.

During Kelly and Garth‘s jam session, she raved about his rendition of “Shallow,” which he did with wife Trisha Yearwood. So, he insisted that they do it together!

Sadly, Kelly didn’t do the final verse with the big ending, but you can go watch her past performance to see her belt out those big notes.

Kelly revealed during the interview that one of Garth‘s songs has been helping her through her divorce with estranged husband Brandon Blackstock.

During the December 14 episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, the 38-year-old singer had Garth as a guest on the talk show and before he performed, Kelly opened up to him about how his song, “The Dance”, has been a positive impact on her life in the current moment.

“So I’m going through a divorce and there’s been like a lot of books and people always give you stuff to like help, especially when you have kids and stuff,” Kelly explained on the show. “And I know you’ve been divorced as well. It’s like, man, there’s so much shame and guilt, and everybody sends you stuff, and I was just kind of working through it.”

She continued, “I couldn’t quite nail down the feeling, I was like, you don’t want to crap on it, you don’t want to say that didn’t count or matter, but you don’t know what to put in it because it didn’t work out how you wanted,” she continued. “I kid you not, I was listening to my playlist and ‘The Dance’ came on and I was like, that’s the thing.”

Kelly also revealed to Garth that “The Dance” even inspired a brand new song on her upcoming album, and promised him it’s not “a ripoff.”

“I literally wrote this whole thing therapeutically for me. It’s actually on my next album,” Kelly shared, before singing a line of it.

Kelly added about how Garth‘s song has resonated with her for many years but she never truly related to it the way she does now.

“I was bawling,” she said, “because it is true, there’s a lot of loss, a lot of grief and a lot of change, especially if you have kids.”

“All the books were helpful…it’s so funny, I guess because I’m a musician, I was listening in my room [crying] and I was listening to ‘The Dance,’ I got the point,” Kelly added. “Sometimes that’s so crazy … you’ve known this song your entire life and you freak out when it actually is a direct impact.”

Kelly and Brandon‘s divorce is getting a bit messier, as he is now asking for a lot in spousal support from her. She has also hit back with claims that he defrauded her throughout the years as well.

However, Kelly has been awarded primary custody of their two children together, River and Remington.

Garth Brooks is pulling his name from consideration in the Entertainer of the Year category at the 2020 CMA Awards.

The 58-year-old country star announced on Wednesday (July 29) during a virtual press conference (via People) that he wants his name to be permanently out of contention, saying “It’s time for somebody else to hold that award.”

Garth has won Entertainer of the Year a record breaking seven times – in 1991, 1992, 1997, 1998, 2016, 2017 and 2019 — but his latest win last year, he says, was “not that fun, to tell you the truth.”

Garth received a lot of backlash from fans last year, who had hoped that Carrie Underwood or Eric Church would win.

Despite wanting the Country Music Association to no longer consider him, the organization released a statement saying that entertainers can not withdraw from consideration.

“The long-standing CMA Awards rules do not allow individuals to remove themselves from the balloting process at any point,” the CMAs shared in a statement.

If he is nominated again, he is asking CMA members not to vote for him.

“I’m very grateful for the time that I’ve got to go [win],” Garth said, but now, “somebody else needs to hold that.”

Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood have decided to go into quarantine after they, and their camp, were potentially exposed to coronavirus.

The country couple announced today that they would have to cancel their upcoming Inside Studio G concert as they head into quarantine for precaution.

“Out of an abundance of caution, Garth Brooks is moving his and Trisha Yearwood’s July 7th Facebook concert to a later date and postponing Inside Studio G for 2 weeks,” an announcement read on their official sites.

It continues, “While Garth and Trisha are fine, the Garth/Trisha camp has possibly been exposed to the Covid-19 virus. To be smart about this, they are all quarantining for 2 weeks and thank everyone for their concern.”

While Garth and Trisha are fine at the moment, their choice to go self-isolate is a smart one, given the coronavirus numbers that keep increasing across the nation as businesses and people started to return to “normal”.

At the beginning of the pandemic, Garth and Trisha put on a Facebook Live concert which crashed the site, before hosting it on CBS.

Garth Brooks has announced some exciting news for fans – he will be releasing new music TONIGHT!

The country music legend made the announcement during the Monday (May 11) episode of Inside Studio G on Facebook. A fan asked Garth if he’d be releasing his new album FUN! any time soon.

Garth told the fan named Jack that the album is complete, and then he made a big decision.

“Jack – tell you what we’re going to do. We’ll get Amazon Music on the phone. You can stream Garth. Let’s release half the album on Amazon Music… tonight. Can we do that?” he said.

So there you have it… half of the album is coming very, very soon.

Garth also discussed how he’s struggled with whether it’s okay to be releasing new music during this difficult time for the world. He said, “We’ve had this discussion. I don’t want to be the guy that tries to do something in the midst where everybody is hurtin’. It’s like…damn it. The album’s ready to go. It’s just how do you get out and promote and be happy and jolly while everybody’s out there fighting for their lives not only physically, but fighting for their lives financially.”

Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood will be performing at the Grand Ole Opry this weekend!

The married country music stars will be taking over the iconic venue for the Opry’s 4,922nd Saturday night performance in a row, local station KKTV reports.

“I’m gonna do some of the greatest country music on the planet. I don’t even know if I’m gonna do any of mine!” Garth joked about the upcoming performance during his InsideStudioG Facebook episode.

He added, “I’m sure there’s probably gonna be some [George] Jones, there’s gonna be some Randy Travis, some [George] Strait, some [Merle] Haggard … and then, you know, the Queen, she’s gonna sing some of the greatest stuff ever, and it could all be hers, too. This is gonna be a fun Saturday night. I’m honored.”

The event will be held without an audience, complying with Nashville’s ongoing safer-at-home order.
