Giacomo Gianniotti Reflects on His 'Grey's Anatomy' Journey, Reveals He's Directing Next Episode!

Giacomo Gianniotti will be making his directorial debut with an upcoming episode of Grey’s Anatomy!

The 31-year-old actor, who plays Dr. Andrew DeLuca on the ABC medical drama series, revealed on his Instagram account that he begins shooting the episode on Tuesday (February 16).

Giacomo opened up about being in high school when the show first started airing and how he’s living his dream by starring on the series.

“It was 2006. I remember it like yesterday. 17 years young. I was in High School. Grade 11 at Cardinal Carter Academy for the Arts in Toronto, Canada. The boys and I would roll to the Sheppard centre for lunch with our collared polo shirts and lose ties with a pack of dumos triple folded in the sleeve. Id usually grab a slice of pizza from Casa Mana with a brio or maybe a blue jones soda from the news stand if I was feeling fancy. The boys and I would play briscola in teams, all with our secret signals. And the girls would watch, chew bubble gum and gossip about the latest steamy hookup on Greys Anatomy. They wouldn’t shut up about it… Graduation was on the horizon and I had high hopes for breaking into Show business… well, just theatre really…” Giacomo began his note.

“If you woulda told me then, that 15 years later i’d be sitting here. In this position, at this age. Living out my dreams, doing what I love every day. I woulda told you, you were nuts 🥜,” Giacomo added.” Time sure does fly when you’re having fun. Here’s to another 15. Who knows where I’ll be standing then. Thanks to Julie Wong for a great script, my wise sage of a mentor in @therealdebbieallen and everyone at @greysabc that I love so dearly. You guys are family.

He concluded, “Aaaaaaaaaaaaand ACTION! 🎬.”

The episode that Giacomo is directing will be titled “Sorry Doesn’t Always Make It Right.”

He recently revealed how Grey’s Anatomy will be tackling the pandemic…

When 'Grey's Anatomy' Returns, It Will Be a Month & A Half Into Coronavirus, Giacomo Gianniotti Says

Giacomo Gianniotti has opened up about the upcoming season of Grey’s Anatomy and revealed just how the show is incorporating their coronavirus storyline.

The showrunner confirmed earlier last month that the series would indeed tackle the pandemic in the new season.

“There’s no way to be a long-running medical show and not do the medical story of our lifetimes,” Krista Vernoff shared at the time.

Now, Giacomo is expanding on that and revealed to fans that when the season starts, Grey Sloan will be a month in a half into the pandemic.

“It’s going to take place a little beyond where we left off in the last season,” Giacomo added. “We might have some flashbacks. We might have some things where we’re referencing last season, just to have context leading up. But we are going to have a little leap when we start this season in terms of time. We’re not picking up right where we left off.”

If you missed it, the series just upped two cast members to series regulars.

Grey's Anatomy's Ellen Pompeo & Giacomo Gianniotti Reunite for a Hike

Ellen Pompeo steps out for some exercise with her longtime friend and co-star Giacomo Gianniotti on Friday morning (June 5) in Los Feliz, Calif.

The Grey’s Anatomy co-stars were spotted on a hike that morning.

Just one day earlier, Ellen took to Instagram to share a video that Giacomo made about his support for the Black Lives Matter movement.

“BEAUTIFUL WORDS LOVE YOU,” Ellen commented on Giacomo‘s page. She then shared the video to her own account.

“This is for the people who need to hear this not for the ones who don’t. Please don’t be overly critical as it leads to people being scared to speak out which equals silence which is deadly. He is coming with this message from a place of love and that is what the mission is LOVE❤️,” Ellen wrote on her page.

Grey's Anatomy's Giacomo Gianniotti Opens Up About Justin Chambers' Exit from the Show

Giacomo Gianniotti looks so handsome while stepping out to promote his partnership with fashion brand Nobis on Thursday (March 12) in New York City.

The 30-year-old Italian actor was joined at the event by models Garrett Neff and Alex Lundqvist.

Giacomo just opened up about his Grey’s Anatomy co-star Justin Chambers‘ exit from the show.

“Any character on the show who leaves, they never die on the show. They’re always spoken about on the show, they’re always referenced,” Giacomo told Us Weekly at the event. “Their spirit is always alive on the show. They never truly leave, especially someone like him, who’s been on from the beginning. You can’t just write him off and then never talk about him again. He’s there. But, yeah, there’s gaps to fill.”

“We’re sad to see him leave, but he’s been playing this guy for 16 years and we totally respect that he wants to have some time with his family,” Giacomo added. “He’s got five kids, he’s got a lovely family and he wanted to explore the opportunity. So, we couldn’t be happier for him.”

Ellen Pompeo recently revealed what she thought about Alex Karev’s farewell from the show.

Is Giacomo Gianniotti Leaving 'Grey's Anatomy'?

Is Giacomo Gianniotti exiting from Grey’s Anatomy too?

It was just announced that Justin Chambers (Dr. Alex Karev) is leaving the ABC series after 15 years, so fans are on high alert.

The speculation concerning Giacomo – who plays Dr. Andrew DeLuca – started when he posted a series of cryptic messages about a career loss in his Instagram Stories on Thursday (January 9).

“Today I finally accept defeat, to a long battle I have been in for the last couple weeks in my career,” Giacomo wrote. “I took an L, a big L. L stands for LOSS in case you were wondering. I’m devastated. Truly.”

“In the many battles of this war we call life; sometimes you have a winning streak,” he continued. “Battle after battle is won. You get confident. You get cocky. You get comfortable. You lean on your infantry, your generals and captains who have done so well. Your community. You step back. You speak less. You shut one eye. You trust more. And sometimes, not always, because of this you are defeated. [In] life, as many mentors of mine have told me, is a war, made up of many battles that are won and [lost]. This battle was lost, and it was humbling to say the least.”

“For everyone wondering, I am absolutely fine,” Giacomo Gianniotti added. “As I said, just wanted to impart some wisdom form life. That’s all. All is good! Thanks for your concern!”

Good news for fans, though – TV Guide reports that the posts were not about his position on Grey’s Anatomy. Whew!

Grey’s Anatomy returns on January 23 at 9/8c on ABC.
