'How to Train Your Dragon' Live Action Movie Cast - 1 Star Reprises Voice Role, 8 Actors Join the Franchise!

Production on the upcoming live action How to Train Your Dragon film is currently underway!!

The new adaptation of the franchise sees writer and director Dean DeBlois returning to write and helm the film after directing the previous three animated movies.

Based on the books by Cressida Cowell, the first animated movie followed Hiccup, a young Viking who defies tradition and befriends one of his deadliest foes – a ferocious dragon he calls Toothless. Together, the unlikely heroes fight against the odds to save both their worlds in this wonderful, feel-good hit.

The movie kicked off filming back in January after strike-related delays, and as of early March, was still underway in Ireland.

Cressida even visited the set and teased, “Everyone is in for a TREAT!”

How to Train Your Dragon is currently slated for a June 13, 2025 release.

While we await more details, we do know who will be starring in the upcoming live action adaptation, including an original voice star from the animated trilogy and a recent addition!

'How to Train Your Dragon' Live Action Cast Revealed - 4 New Stars Join, 1 Voice Actor Reprising Their Role

The cast of How to Train Your Dragon just got bigger!

The upcoming live action adaptation, from writer and director Dean DeBlois, who made the original animated films, has added four more young actors to its cast to bring the characters to life.

Filming on the movie started last Monday, January 15th!

“Our first week was a rousing success! The shots are breathtaking, our crew is top notch, and our cast is amazing! Wait ‘til you see them in action – trust me, they’re FANTASTIC! More on the rest of them soon….😁🐉,” he shared on Instagram after the first week.

For those that may not know, the films are based on the books by Cressida Cowell, and the first followed Hiccup, a young Viking who defies tradition and befriends one of his deadliest foes – a ferocious dragon he calls Toothless. Together, the unlikely heroes fight against the odds to save both their worlds in this wonderful, feel-good hit.

'How to Train Your Dragon' Live Action Movie Begins Filming, 4 Stars Confirmed to Join the Cast

The live action adaptation of How to Train Your Dragon has officially begun filming!

Dean DeBlois, who wrote and directed the original, animated film trilogy, returns as writer and director for the new live action version.

The filmmaker took to social media on Monday (January 15) to reveal that filming is underway.

“First day of the shoot! 🎬 We’re all excited to get underway! 🐉” he captioned a photo of himself on set, holding a clapperboard.

Gerard Butler Will Star in 'How to Train Your Dragon' Live-Action Movie, Returning to Role He Originated

Gerard Butler is returning to an iconic role and doing so in a new way!

The 54-year-old Olympus Has Fallen actor is set to reprise the role of Stoik the Vast in the live-action adaptation of How to Train Your Dragon, which is expected to premiere in 2025.

This marks the first time that Gerard will bring the character to life since 2019′s How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World. It is also the first time that he’ll provide more than his voice as the previous moves were all animated.

Live-Action 'How to Train Your Dragon' Finds Actors for Hiccup & Astrid Roles!

A live-action remake of the beloved animated movie How to Train Your Dragon is currently in the works and Universal Pictures has announced the young actors who will take on the lead roles of Hiccup and Astrid.

The franchise has been a huge hit for DreamWorks Animation, with the three films grossing more than $1.5 billion at the global box office combined.

Kit Harington Shares Mock 'GoT' Audition Reel with Toothless from 'How to Train Your Dragon' - Watch Here!

Kit Harington is taking us back to when he first auditioned for Game of Thrones back in 2010!

In a mock audition reel for the “Untitled Fantasy TV Drama,” the 31-year-old actor auditions for the role of Jon Snow – and he’s joined in the audition by Toothless from How to Train Your Dragon.

In the vid, Kit has some issues working with Toothless, and takes a funny jab at his character saying, “I’m confused about my part, first I’m dead then I’m not, and no one knows who my mother is.”

If you didn’t know, Kit will be voicing a new character in the upcoming How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World – which is set to hit theaters on March 1, 2019.

The new trailer for How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World has arrived!
