J Balvin & Valentina Ferrer Are Expecting Their First Child!

J Balvin is going to be a dad!

The 35-year-old “Mi Gente” superstar and 27-year-old Argentinean model Valentina Ferrer are expecting their first child together, the couple confirmed Thursday (April 15).

Valentina shared photos from Vogue Mexico debuting the baby bump on the cover.

“Se va agrandando la familia,” she wrote on Instagram. (“The family is growing.”)

J Balvin commented with a simple “❤️.”

In her interview in the magazine, Valentina opened up about the pregnancy: “After quarantine, I said: ‘This is my moment. No, not my moment. This is my baby’s moment.’ ”

“I did the pregnancy test in the bathroom with my dog to not be alone. I did three tests in a row because I couldn’t believe it.”

She also explained J Balvin‘s reaction.

“He froze. He was happy, but it was like a call from Zoom that does not work when the WiFi crashes. He stayed frozen. I told him in person, but that’s how he reacted.”

She also shared advice for other expecting mothers: “Keep being yourself, doing the things you do, just be careful and get closer to your family.”

Congratulations to the happy couple! All of these stars are also expecting kids in 2021.

J Balvin Reveals He Almost Had An Entirely Different Stage Name on 'Hot Ones'

J Balvin has opened up about the unique stage name he almost took in the latest episode of Hot Ones.

The 35-year-old Colombian singer revealed that a friend once told him he needed a “spicy” stage name for his music career.

The moment came as he was about to take his first bite of a pepper called the Scotch Bonnet, which was the name his friend suggested.

“Speaking of Scotch Bonnet, you know that was supposed to be my artist name? Yeah, that’s funny,” he mentioned before the bite. “When I was looking for my name, I had a friend, his name is Fat Al and he’s a rapper. And he was like, ‘You should have a spicy name like Scotch Bonnet.’”

He continued, “This was the first time I actually see what he was talking about. Now let’s taste it!” After his bite, he added, “Now, we’re on another level.”

The singer’s real name is José Álvaro Osorio Balvin.

J Balvin Reveals He 'Didn't Want to Live' Amid Struggle with Depression

J Balvin is getting candid about his struggle with depression.

During a candid conversation with Becky G on her Amazon Music podcast En La Sala, the 25-year-old reggaeton singer admitted that there was one point in his life where he “didn’t want to live” anymore.

“I was just crying for no reason. Didn’t want to wake up. Didn’t want to eat, didn’t even want to live,” J Balvin said, revealing that he’s been suffering from anxiety and depression since he was a kid.

“You lose hope and you feel strange at every place you go. You feel like you are outside of your body,” J Balvin explained. “I’ve been shaking since I was a kid, and I’ve always had it, but I just didn’t know it was anxiety.”

J Balvin said that he didn’t want to seek help because he want to think he “was crazy.”

“I remember that I was in bed for, like, five days and I was just waiting to die. ‘I don’t have the balls to kill myself but I will just wait,’” J Balvin recalled thinking at the time. “Of course, my whole family was devastated because at the time I wasn’t as known as I am right now…. At the time, I quit my career and I love music.”

Eventually, J Balvin went to see a doctor to get help and started treatment for depression.

“Since then, I have been medicated and I don’t feel bad about it,” J Balvin shared.

Now, J Balvin said he’s committed to destigmatizing treatment both in his music and on social media.

“What I tell kids is don’t believe everything you see on Instagram. I want to be a real man and show [the real me],” J Balvin said. “There’s a lot of people out there suffering like I am…but when you’re going through a hard moment and have anxiety and depression, don’t check Instagram.”

“To me, everything, for real, is to have health and mental health and peace,” he continued. “I want to tell the kids, don’t be afraid to be who they are and this comes with everything, sexual identity, beliefs, religion, who you want to be as an artist, your career, don’t compare yourself to anybody else.”

“Like any human being, I’ve had some challenges. This time it’s anxiety and some depression,” he explained in Spanish in the video.

“I don’t like acting or faking my happiness or that everything is perfect. I’m like any human being. I’m fragile and vulnerable, possibly more than all of you,” he continued.

“Soon, the storm will pass and I’ll be back cracking jokes with you all. I’m not here to act but to be real and share what I’m feeling in the moment. I love you all. Jose,” he ended the video.

He similarly posted about his struggles last year, writing: “Anxiety and depression are a reality, perhaps it is part of my mission on earth to talk about things that few accept. And simply accepting that I am human like everyone else. 🙏”

Earlier in the year, he revealed something about his health.

“Unfortunately, J Balvin and Roddy Ricch are no longer performing. As with every awards show, there are always last-minute talent changes. That said, this year has more logistical hurdles than most and the health and safety of our employees and partners is of the utmost importance,” a source told the outlet.

“Unfortunately, I won’t be performing at this year’s VMAs as announced. My team and I did everything in our power to make this work, due to COVID compliance issues at the last minute we had to call off the performance. My team and I are safe and everyone’s health is a main priority, as well as giving a quality performance. I appreciate MTV for the opportunity to perform and I hope I can see y’all next year. STAY SAFE,” Roddy wrote on Instagram.

J Balvin has not yet spoke out about the news, but confirmed earlier in the month that he tested positive for coronavirus.
