During the call, Joe recalled the first time he met Sofia at a party, who at the time he thought was still engaged, and how he pursued her upon finding out she was single with the help of co-host Jess Cagle.
“Later on that night, Jesse Tyler Ferguson came up and to me and said hey, my friend Sofia wants to come over and say hi,” he explained, saying that he thought it was weird considering he thought Sofia was still engaged to Nick Loeb, who was at the party.
He went on to say that weeks later, Jess shot him an email telling him ahead of time that Sofia broke off her engagement and was about to announce it on People, and Jess wanted to give Joe a heads up first before other people pursued her.
Joe also talked to Jesse afterward and found out she was in fact single by the time they first met at that party.
He eventually got Sofia‘s number, called her and he ultimately decided to fly to New Orleans just to meet her while she was on set and take her out.
“I waited four years to hit my window, I’m not gonna let it close. I’m coming to New Orleans…she said ‘you’re crazy,’ I said ‘I’ll see you next week,’” he said.
Listen to Joe Manganiello explain the story…

This week, People magazine writer Natasha Stoynoff opened up about being sexually assaulted by Donald Trump, and now, editor-in-chief of the mag Jess Cagle is backing her story and commending her for speaking out.
In a rally today, Trump said, “These vicious claims of inappropriate conduct about me with women are totally and absolutely false.”
Jess responded in a statement (via People), “We are grateful to Natasha Stoynoff for telling her story. Ms. Stoynoff is a remarkable, ethical, honest and patriotic woman, and she has shared her story of being physically attacked by Donald Trump in 2005 because she felt it was her duty to make the public aware. To assign any other motive is a disgusting, pathetic attempt to victimize her again. We stand steadfastly by her, and are proud to publish her clear, credible account of what happened. It is heartbreaking that her fear of retaliation by Trump kept her from reporting the incident when it happened. She has carried this secret for more than a decade, and we hope that by coming forward now she is relieved of that burden.”
