The first Harry Potter film, Chris Columbus‘s Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, hit theaters almost 18 years ago.

Since then – seven movies later – we have sadly lost some of the talented actors who brought some of our favorite characters to life in the franchise.

Fortunately, J.K. Rowling‘s magical world will live forever and *always* in our hearts thanks to their brilliant performances.

We’re taking a look back at some of the Harry Potter stars who have sadly died since filming.

Natalie Portman is speaking out to pay tribute to the late actor John Hurt, who she worked with on the recent film Jackie.

The British actor died on Wednesday at the age of 77 and he also starred alongside Natalie in the 2005 film V for Vendetta.

Natalie is currently nominated for an Oscar for her work in Jackie.

John Hurt has reportedly passed away at the age of 77, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The Oscar-nominated British actor announced that he was battling pancreatic cancer back in June of 2015.

John is best known for his roles in The Elephant Man and Midnight Express, which both landed him Oscar nominations.

He is also known for his role as Ollivander in the Harry Potter films, Alien, appearances on Doctor Who and was most recently featured in Jackie alongside Natalie Portman.

Our thoughts are with John‘s friends and family during this difficult time.

The 33-year-old Oscar-winning actor voices the new engine Ryan and coincidentally, he just talked about trains in a new interview!

Eddie just opened up to The Times about how he still rides the subway despite being famous and getting recognized by fans. “I get stopped occasionally, but I still go on the tube,” he said.

Also voicing characters in the movie are Jamie Campbell Bower and John Hurt. It is available on Blu-ray and DVD and airs on PBS on October 12.

Joanne Froggatt is also lending her voice to a new animated film – Bob the Builder, airing on PBS on November 7.

Joan Collins and Kristin Scott Thomas are the latest actresses to receive the honor of being named dames by Queen Elizabeth II!

Joan will be receiving the honor for her services to charity while Kristin is receiving the award for her services to drama.

Actor John Hurt will receive knighthood for his services to drama.

“There’s nothing to compare to being a Dame and getting that kind of accolade from my country and my Queen. I am very patriotic and quite a Royalist so it is extraordinary”, Joan told BBC.

“This is an immense honor that I could not believe was really for me. In fact, I thought someone was playing a trick. But it’s true, apparently, and I am thrilled, astonished and worried that I might suddenly wake up!” Kristin said.

James Corden and Emily Watson will both be made an OBE for their services to drama.

Just the day before, Dwayne wrapped on Fast & Furious 7.

Tom Hiddleston is dashing in a tuxedo while attending the premiere of his new flick Only Lovers Left Alive during the 2013 Cannes Film Festival at Palais des Festival on Saturday (May 25) in Cannes, France.

The 32-year-old English actor was spotted holding hands with his co-star Tilda Swinton.

Earlier in the day, Tom and Tilda attended the photo call for the film.

“No aeroplanes left at Heathrow. No trains from St Pancras. I am travelling to Cannes by night. By land and sea. Like a vampire,” Tom recently tweeted.
