Laverne Cox is celebrating her 50th birthday and she had someone special by her side at her party!
The Inventing Anna was joined by the real-life Kacy Duke at her “Very Barbie Birthday” celebration on Thursday (May 26) at Moxy Times Square in New York City.
For those who don’t know, Laverne plays Kacy in the hit Netflix series Inventing Anna.
Kacy wrote on Instagram, “Celebrating the life of this amazing actress, activist, Icon and one of the most loving human beings I’ve been so blessed to meet this lifetime! AND… Congratulations to @lavernecox for being Mattel’s first transgender Barbie designed after you! Bravo👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽.”
Back in February, Laverne opened up about what Kacy thought of her role in Inventing Anna.
Laverne took to Instagram on Friday (May 27) to talk about her new Barbie doll.
“There is now a Laverne Cox Barbie doll. Just Wow! Thank you to everyone at @mattel for all the love you poured into creating her. And thank you for this moment for the trans and lgbtq+ community in truly challenging times particularly for trand kids. I am so deeply humbled and I hope this doll will be a beacon of hope and possibility for Barbie fans and beyond of all ages,” she wrote.
