Grammys 2021 'In Memoriam' Performance Featured So Many Stars Honoring the Ones We Lost This Year

Bruno Mars, Anderson Paak, Lionel Richie, Brandi Carlile, Chris Martin and Brittany Howard are honoring musicians who passed away this year at the 2021 Grammys.

Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak, who performed earlier in the night as the duo Silk Sonic, honored Little Richard who died last May at age 87. The pair covered his hits “Long Tall Sally” and “Good Golly Miss Molly”.

Lionel Richie then gave a somber performance of his close friend Kenny Rogers‘ song “Lady”, which Lionel wrote, and “The Gambler”. The country music legend passed away in March at the age of 81.

Brandi Carlile followed with a rendition of John Prine‘s “I Remember Everything.” John died from complications related to COVID-19 in April at the age of 73. She ended her performance with, “We all thank you, John. For everything.”

Brittany Howard and Chris Martin finished the segment with a cover of the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic “You’ll Never Walk Alone,” as pictures of Bunny Wailer, Hal Willner, and Jerry Jeff Walker played behind them.

The montage also included Eddie Van Halen, Pop Smoke, Sophie, Charley Pride, Ennio Morricone, among many others.

Lady Antebellum's 'Islands In The Stream' Cover For Kenny Rogers Tribute Will Blow You Away

Lady Antebellum had us completely speechless after performing a cover of “Islands In The Stream” during the Kenny Rogers Tribute tonight on CMT.

The three piece group – Dave Haywood, Hillary Scott, and Charles Kelley – took on the famous duet which Kenny made a hit with Dolly Parton during the program, which paid tribute to the star, who passed away last month.

Charles noted that the song was very inspirational to the group “because it opened up a giant audience to the country music genre.”

“The tone and the texture really lets the listener feel like he’s lived some life,” Dave added. “[It] tells a story. I think that’s what connects with so many people.”

Lionel Richie Mourns the Death of One of His 'Closest Friends' Kenny Rogers

Lionel Richie is remembering his late friend, Kenny Rogers.

The 70-year-old music star posted a tribute to the late entertainer, who sadly died at 81 on Saturday (March 21).

“Today I lost one of my closest friends 💔 So much laughter so many adventures to remember, my heart is broken. My prayers go out to Kenny’s Family,” he wrote.

Lionel wrote Kenny‘s 1980 hit, “Lady.” The two also shared the stage many times over the years.

Dolly Parton Pays Tribute to Late Singing Partner Kenny Rogers

Dolly Parton has shared a tribute to the late Kenny Rogers, who was her singing partner for many years. He passed away from natural causes.

The country singer posted a one-minute video message on her Twitter account along with this message: “You never know how much you love somebody until they’re gone. I’ve had so many wonderful years and wonderful times with my friend Kenny, but above all the music and the success I loved him as a wonderful man and a true friend.”

Dolly said that she learned about Kenny‘s death while watching the news.

In the video, Dolly said, “I know that we all know that Kenny is in a better place than we are today and I’m pretty sure that he’s going to be talking to God sometime today… and he’s going to be asking him to spread some light on a bunch of this darkness. I loved Kenny with all my heart. My heart’s broken. A big ol’ chunk of it has gone with him today.”

“I think I can speak for all of his family, his friends, and fans when I say that I will always love you,” she added. While tearing up, she added, “God bless you Kenny, fly high straight into the arms of God. To the rest of you, keep the faith.”

Country Superstar Kenny Rogers Dies at 81

Kenny Rogers has sadly passed away, Variety reports.

The country legend was 81 and passed way from natural causes and “under the care of hospice and surrounded by his family.”

According to the site, Kenny‘s family is planning a small private service at this time out of concern for the national COVID-19 emergency. At a later date, they are planning a celebration of life event for him.

Kenny‘s most famous hit songs include “Islands In The Stream”, “The Gambler”, and “We’ve Got Tonight”.

Kenny had been married five times, leaving behind his current wife, Wanda. He had five children: Christopher, Jordan, Justin, Kenny Rogers Jr., and only daughter, Carole.

Kenny Rogers Admitted to Hospital for Dehydration

Kenny Rogers is recovering at a Georgia hospital.

The 80-year-old singer-songwriter’s team confirmed the news in a statement on Twitter on Friday (May 31).

“Due to recent wild misinformation and speculation from several media outlets, we are issuing the following statement on behalf of Kenny Rogers,” the statement reads.

Kenny was recently admitted to a local Georgia hospital and treated for dehydration. He will remain there to complete some physical therapy to get his strength back prior to discharge. He appreciates the concern and well wishes he has received from his fans and can assure everyone he plans on sticking around through the years to come.”

Miley Cyrus is appearing on every episode of The Tonight Show this week and she got dressed up with host Jimmy Fallon for a fun performance on Wednesday night’s show.

Miley, dressed up as her godmother Dolly Parton, and Jimmy, dressed as Kenny Rogers, did a rendition of the classic song “Islands in the Stream.”
