Viola Davis Will Campaign For Best Actress Oscar For 'The Woman King' Role

Viola Davis looks stunning in a black and white gown at the premiere of her new movie, The Woman King, held at Odeon Luxe Leicester Square on Monday (October 3) in London, England.

The 57-year-old actress was joined by co-stars John Boyega, Lashana Lynch, Sheila Atim, Makgotso M, Thuso Mbedu, and Hero Fiennes Tiffin on the red carpet, along with director Gina Prince-Bythewood.

Viola‘s husband, Julius Tennon (who is also in the movie), and Chiwetel Ejiofor were special guests there.

According to Variety, Viola will be competing for a Best Actress nomination at the Oscars, with Thuso, Sheila, Jayme Lawson, Adrienne Warren and Lashana going out for Best Supporting Actress.

The outlet also reports that John, and the other male stars of the movie, will be competing for a supporting actor nomination for the film.

If Viola does get the Best Actress nomination, she would be the first Black woman to be nominated for a film that she also served as a producer on.

FYI: Sheila wore Prada. Thuso wore Tony Ward Couture. Lashana wore a Jenny Packham dress with Sophia Webster shoes.

Viola Davis Calls 'The Woman King' Her 'Magnum Opus' Movie at TIFF World Premiere

Viola Davis stuns in a bright pink dress at the premiere of her new movie, The Woman King, during the 2022 Toronto Film Festival at Roy Thomson Hall on Friday (September 9) in Toronto, Canada.

The 57-year-old actress joined her costars John Boyega, Lashana Lynch, Sheila Atim, Makgotso M, Thuso Mbedu, Sivuyile Ngesi, Masali Baduza, Siyamthanda Makakane, and Hero Fiennes Tiffin, as well as director Gina Prince-Bythewood at the red carpet event.

Just a few hours earlier, the cast were seen at a Twitter Q&A panel in support of the movie.

Ahead of the screening of the movie, Viola gave an impassioned speech about it, calling it her “magnum opus”.
