“I just find the whole thing a little bit toxic,” he said of the paparazzi, noting that he was particularly upset by rumors that he’s dating musician Phoebe Bridgers, after the two were seen getting breakfast together. (He did not provide further details to the outlet.)

He also opened up about whether the objectification of himself and his character Connell is bothersome.

“Honest answer? Yes. It’s not something that I try to lean into. But I put it down to the audience’s associations with Connell rather than with me,” he said.

“It wasn’t something that we put any focus on during filming. I think there has been a kind of leaning on the sexualizing of it, which has been a little bit difficult to adjust to. It’s not something I lie in bed thinking about at night,” he said of wardrobe decisions for his character.

“The fandom on the show has been amazing, and seeing people have articulate discussions about character is so satisfying,” he clarified, adding that “99 percent” of fan encounters are “really positive.”

Paul Mescal is filming a movie together with this actor right now and it looks like they’re having a blast!

'Normal People' Showrunners & Stars Paul Mescal & Daisy Edgar-Jones Discuss If Series Will Get a Season Two

We finally have an answer if Normal People will get a season two.

During their feature with Deadline‘s Award Line magazine, Paul Mescal, Daisy Edgar-Jones and showrunners, Ed Guiney and Lenny Abrahamson stopped fans from guessing any longer.

The short answer: no.

“We’ve talked about the possibility of how interesting it would be to check back in with them,” Lenny says of Daisy and Paul‘s charters. “But apart from just general musings and over a drink, no. There have been no concrete discussions about what it would be like. As Sally [Rooney, author] says, the book stops where it stops because it feels right. But, I have a sneaking thing in the back of my head that if everybody was willing, and if the stars aligned, I’d love to revisit them in five years and find out what happened, where they are. Is somebody a father or a mother? What relationship are they in that then get disrupted by their meeting again?”

He adds, “But it would be really strange to pick that up eight weeks later with him traveling to new York, I think. There needs to be time. You’d do it for real, you’d do it a la Before Sunset.”

Paul does have some ideas about where Connell would be in that imaginary season two.

“Connell, I believe, would potentially get married to somebody else,” he says. “It’ll destroy lots of people’s lives along the way, because ultimately they’re going to be drawn. But they will consciously resist the idea that there’re supposed to be together. It’ll be a long process of discovery until they finally find each other permanently.

Paul adds, “I really need them to be together. If Sally ever decides to do the second book or second series, I need them to be together.”

If you didn’t see, Sally‘s other book, “Conversations With Friends”, just got a straight to series order.

Hulu Gives a Straight-to-Series Order to 'Normal People' Author Sally Rooney's 'Conversations With Friends'

Following the breakout success of Normal People, author Sally Rooney‘s 2017 novel, Conversations With Friends, is now getting a straight-to-series order stateside.

Hulu announced a straight-to-series order for the 12-part show, which the BBC previously committed to earlier in the year, Deadline reported Thursday (June 25).

Normal People stars Daisy Edgar-Jones and Paul Mescal.

Conversations with Friends follows two female college students in Dublin who forge an unexpected, strange and sexually charged relationship with an older married couple, which results in a complicated pair of love triangles that upends their lives.

Normal People‘s director Lenny Abrahamson will direct Conversations with Friends.

Sally Rooney perfectly and beautifully captures the complicated dynamics of relationships in her stories. After bringing that to life in Normal People to an overwhelmingly positive response, we are honored to do the same with Conversations with Friends. We are excited to continue our creative partnership with Sally, Element Pictures, Lenny and the BBC, which has been a dream collaboration,” said Hulu exec Beatrice Springborn.

Normal People's Daisy Edgar-Jones Reveals How the Intimate Scenes Looked So Realistic

Daisy Edgar-Jones is opening up about the success of her Hulu series Normal People and what it was like filming those intimate scenes with co-star Paul Mescal.

The 22-year-old actress chatted with Porter and said, “I feel very lucky to have met Paul through this process. He’s a wonderful, wonderful person and a very giving actor… He’ll be a friend for life.”

Daisy credits the realistic sex scenes to Ita O’Brien‘s intimacy direction. She said, “You need more protection because it is a stunt, with physical maneuvers that you need to make look realistic – just like in a fight scene… Mentally, it’s a really vulnerable place to put yourself in.”

The show was released back in April while we were in the middle of quarantine, so Daisy hasn’t really been able to experience the success of the show.

“I turn my phone off and then I’m just inside, and my life isn’t very different, so it’s difficult to comprehend that it really is that big… We just can’t believe the reaction,” she said.

Here’s what Paul had to say about going full frontal on the series!
