Milla Jovovich is opening up about her decision to portray strong, powerful female characters in her movies.

The 41-year-old actress discussed her roles in both The Fifth Element and the Resident Evil series during a recent interview with The New York Times.

“We live in patriarchal society,” she stated. “We’re dealing with it so much in America. So I think it’s more important now to show women in positions of power. If audiences go to see women in action, that means they believe a woman can do that.”

“There’s always going to be some voyeuristic misogyny,” she went on, but noted that directors like her husband Paul W.S. Anderson are examples of men who believe in casting women in these roles.

“When I did The Fifth Element, I realized I was never going to be the girl in the movie that goes ‘watch out’ or ‘help me,’ she added. “I felt like, on a personal level, it felt disrespectful to play the damsel in distress.”

“It’s crazy the stories I’ve heard,” Milla shared about girls who have been inspired by her Resident Evil performance. “The power of a pop-culture image. It’s everything.”

Ruby Rose is picture perfect as she hits the red carpet at the premiere of her latest film Resident Evil: The Final Chapter held at the Regal L.A. Live Theatres on Monday (January 23) in Los Angeles.

The 30-year-old entertainer was joined by co-star Milla Jovovich, as well as her director husband Paul W.S. Anderson and their nine-year-old daughter Ever Gabo Anderson, who is making her acting debut in the new movie.

Other cast members in attendance were Ali Larter, William Levy, Eoin Macken, Rola, and Fraser James.

Milla Jovovich is making sure Resident Evil fans are getting love everywhere!

The 40-year-old actress and her director husband Paul W.S. Anderson hit the red carpet at the premiere of their anticipated film Resident Evil: The Final Chapter at Cinemex Antara Polanco on Monday (January 9) in Mexico City, Mexico.

Milla was also joined by her co-stars Ali Larter and William Levy.

The 41-year-old Resident Evil actress recently opened up to Vanity Fair Italia about her sex life.

“We have been sleeping all together in our bed; us and our older daughter. When it comes to love we don’t have limits. If our daughters want to sleep with us, they are welcome,” Milla said. “It is interesting, we have to find alternative solutions. We go to hotels, or just use other areas of the house. You have no idea how good creativity has been for our relationship!”

Milla Jovovich‘s nine-year-old daughter Ever Gabo Anderson is making her acting debut in the new movie Resident Evil: The Final Chapter and the mother-daughter duo celebrated together at the movie’s Tokyo premiere!

The 40-year-old actress was also joined by director husband Paul W.S. Anderson while attending the event on Tuesday (December 13) at Roppongi Hills in Tokyo, Japan.

Other cast members in attendance were Ali Larter, William Levy, Eoin Macken, Rola, and Joon-Gi Lee.

“What an amazing journey it’s been for almost 15 years of #residentevil and I’m so sad it’s come to an end…😥 but what an incredible night we had at the Tokyo premiere with my immediate family and my #residentevilthefinalchapter family @therealalil @willevy @rolaofficial and @eoincmacken! A new trailer for the upcoming film was released at the event and you can watch it below. Resident Evil: The Final Chapter will hit theaters on January 27.
