Vanessa Kirby Reveals Interesting Details About Filming the Labor Scene in 'Pieces of a Woman'

Vanessa Kirby is opening up about what is was like to film that intense labor scene in her new movie Pieces of a Woman, which is streaming now on Netflix.

One of the first scenes of the film is a 24-minute one-shot take of Vanessa‘s character giving birth, from the contractions through a heartbreaking conclusion.

In a new interview with The New York Times, Vanessa revealed that the scene was shot six times over a span of two days and each take was different.

The article notes that the differences included how “Martha and Sean’s conversations shifted, the way Martha’s body reacted to the contractions was distinctive each time.”

“It was, I think, probably the best career experience I’ve ever had,” Vanessa said about shooting that scene.

While preparing for the scene, Vanessa observed a woman’s six-hour labor and she says the experience “changed me so profoundly. Every second of what was happening to her, I just absorbed.” She added that the woman’s “body was taking over and doing it, so that helped me so much for the scene.”

When it was time for Vanessa to shoot the scene, she “tried to think as little as possible, she said, and not judge what her body was doing in the scene.”

Vanessa recently made a statement in response to the abuse allegations against her co-star Shia LaBeouf.

The Director of Shia LaBeouf's New Movie 'Pieces of a Woman' Reacts to Abuse Allegations

Kornél Mundruczó, the director of Shia LaBeouf‘s new movie Pieces of a Woman, is speaking out in response to the allegations made against the actor by his ex-girlfriend FKA twigs.

Shia stars alongside Vanessa Kirby in the new film, which will be released on Netflix and is expected to get a big awards season push.

FKA twigs came forward earlier this month with allegations of “relentless” abuse and sexual battery. She filed a lawsuit against Shia in the Los Angeles Superior Court.

“These are serious allegations that were hard to read. My heart was full of sorrow and sadness to read the accounts. I believe all humans should feel like they can come forward and tell their truth. I stand with you,” Kornél told Variety.

The Variety article also provided more revelations about Shia, including the real reason why he exited the upcoming movie Don’t Worry Darling and what his lawyer said he’ll be doing in the future.

Netflix Stops Shia LaBeouf's Awards Campaign Amid Abuse Allegations

Netflix is no longer supporting Shia LaBeouf for awards consideration for his performance in the movie Pieces of a Woman.

The 34-year-old actor was being campaigned for Best Actor for his work in the upcoming film, but Netflix has removed him from their For Your Consideration page.

Not only has Shia‘s name been removed from the FYC categories, his name has even been removed from the synopsis of the film and all images including him have been taken off the page. Netflix is still campaigning Vanessa Kirby for Best Actress and six other actors in the supporting categories.

In Pieces of a Woman, Vanessa and Shia play a couple on the verge of parenthood whose lives change irrevocably during a home birth at the hands of a flustered midwife, who faces charges of criminal negligence. Vanessa previously won the Best Actress prize at the Venice Film Festival.

Shia was recently accused of abuse by his ex-girlfriend and Honey Boy co-star FKA twigs.

New photos emerged this weekend of Shia and his new famous girlfriend packing on the PDA at the airport.

Vanessa Kirby Talks About Filming a 30-Minute Labor Scene for 'Pieces of a Woman'

Vanessa Kirby is getting a lot of Oscar buzz for her work in the Netflix movie Pieces of a Woman and she’s opening up about one of the pivotal scenes in the film.

The movie opens with a 30-minute labor scene and she discussed how she prepared for it during a new interview with Harper’s Bazaar.

“I started watching everything I could find. Endless documentaries, home birth videos, but everything was so sanitized; everything was so edited,” Vanessa said.

Vanessa ended up shadowing an obstetrician and witnessing a live birth.

“I watched her for six hours go through a really difficult labor, no painkillers, forceps. It got really, really difficult…I watched her go on a completely lone journey, like an odyssey, through the most primal, almost divine…And I saw the power and the fear in all of it. I came away far more of a woman in appreciating the sacredness of the feminine in a way that I don’t think I had fully realized. I feel like I had lived something in human experience I hadn’t lived before,” Vanessa said. “It brought everything that I sort of had known intellectually into being, which is, this is like the magnificence of being a woman, and its creation essentially…It almost gave birth to the film inside my heart.”

The trailer for the movie, which also stars Shia LaBeouf, was released this week.
