Shad Gaspard, a former WWE wrestler, has tragically died at the age of 39.

His body was found and identified after a swimming accident that took place over the weekend in Venice Beach, Calif. Shad and his 10-year-old son Aryeh were swimming when they got caught in a strong rip current.

His body was found near the pier and was reported on Wednesday (May 20) at about 1:20 AM.

Shad told lifeguards to save his son first, and by the time the lifeguards had returned, he had reportedly gone under, TMZ reports.

The U.S. Coast Guard has suspended the search for Shad Gaspard.

After the 39-year-old WWE star went missing while going for a swim with his 10-year-old son Aryeh at a beach in Los Angeles, the Coast Guard confirmed that they’ve suspended their search in a statement to E! News.

“I can’t speak to L.A. County search efforts, because from what I know they are still searching [...] that does not mean the case is closed, it means that we suspended the search, but if an aircraft or boater sees something we will respond. We were searching for approximately 16.5 hours,” they said.

“We conducted 7 search patterns covering 60 nautical square miles, utilizing Coast Guard assets such as a Coast Guard helicopter, a patrol boat and a 45-foot response boat, there are all different units from various stations,” they went on to say.

His wife, Siliana Gaspard, spoke out on Instagram on Tuesday (May 20).

“We would like to express our gratitude to the first responders who rescued Aryeh and to the lifeguards, coast guard, divers, fire and police departments for their continued efforts to help find our beloved Shad. Shad is a fighter, a warrior and a magical soul. We are hoping and praying for his safe return. As a family we thank you all for your concern and well wishes. Please continue to keep sending your positivity and prayers to our beloved Shad,” she wrote.

The 39-year-old and his son were reportedly part of a group of swimmers caught in a strong rip current that had lifeguards rushing to pull everyone out of the water.

Shad Gaspard, well known as being a former WWE star, has gone missing on Sunday (May 17) after going for a swim in Venice Beach, California with his 10-year-old son.

The 39-year-old and his son were reportedly part of a group of swimmers caught in a strong rip current that had lifeguards rushing to pull everyone out of the water, TMZ reports.

His son was rescued, but officials are saying Shad “did submerge.” Divers and helicopters were dispatched to the area.

When rescuers came, Shad apparently directed them to help his son first. Reports indicate a huge wave crashed down on Shad and that was the last he was seen.
