Benedict Cumberbatch Films 'Sherlock' Season Four with His Co-Stars

Benedict Cumberbatch films for season four of Sherlock with a Bloodhound dog on Tuesday (April 26) in London, England.

The 39-year-old star of the show was joined by his co-stars Martin Freeman and Amanda Abbington. Martin and Amanda, who are in a relationship in real-life, play a couple on the show as well, and their characters were expecting a baby in season three, despite a tumultuous reveal!

Sherlock season four is expected to debut next year.

Benedict Cumberbatch & Martin Freeman Are Back For 'Sherlock' Special Trailer - Watch Now!

Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch) and John Watson (Martin Freeman) take a trip to the Victorian era in this first official trailer for the highly-anticipated upcoming Sherlock special!

“We discovered there was some precedent for doing Sherlock in the Victorian era,” executive producer Steven Moffat recently told EW. “When we first did Sherlock, press asked, ‘How can Sherlock possibly survive in world with an iPhone?’ and when doing the Victorian, the press came in and said, ‘How can he do this without his iPhone?’”

He added, “It’s very much the show you know. It’s the Sherlock as you know it, but in the correct era. It’s one of the best ones we’ve made. I think it’s really terrific.”

Benedict Cumberbatch's Gay Rights Campaign Won't Be Supported By Kate Middleton & Prince William

Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman get into costume to film their hit BBC series Sherlock over the weekend in Bristol, England.

The 38-year-old Oscar nominee recently penned an an open letter petitioning the U.K. government to give a pardon to some 49,000 homosexuals who were treated prosecuted for being gay by the British government several decades ago.

In 2009, the British government gave Alan Turing an “unequivocal apology” for his mistreatment (Benedict portrays Alan in The Imitation Game). Unfortunately, according to The Telegraph, Prince William and Kate Middleton have rejected Benedict‘s plea for his gay rights campaign in the UK and a spokesperson said since it is a matter for the government that they could not comment.

The first image from the upcoming Sherlock special was just released, featuring Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock) and Martin Freeman (John Watson) looking all gussied up!

“#221back #Sherlock #notkidding” the BBC tweeted earlier today, along with the image. “This is what we’ve been doing today. Later on a pic of #Sherlock and John as they’ll appear in the Special. #221back” the account updated earlier with a pic of the script.

The special will air sometime in 2015, with new episodes on the way in 2016. The multiple Emmy Award-winning series was an instant smash hit when it first aired in 2010. You can catch up on back episodes, which are all streaming on Netflix!

'Sherlock' Season Four to Air in 2015!

The hit BBC series Sherlock will air four new episodes in 2015 as part of the fourth season!

“A special, plus a new series of three episodes – it’s a record-breaking run! Of course, it’s far too early to say what’s coming, but we’re reasonably confident that the very next thing to happen to Sherlock and John, is the very last thing you’d expect,” Stephen Moffat, co-creator and executive producer said in a statement (via Variety).

“Series Four! At last! It’s always special to return to ‘Sherlock‘ but this time it’s even more special as we’re doing… a Special! Not only THAT, we’ll then be shooting three more episodes which will take Sherlock and John Watson into deeper and darker water than ever before. The whole ‘Sherlock‘ team are terrifically excited to return for four new adventures. The Game is on – again!” Mark Gatiss, co-creator and executive producer, added.

Benedict Cumberbatch stars as Sherlock and Martin Freeman stars as Dr. John Watson in the hit television show. If you need to catch up on episodes, they’re all on Netflix!

Benedict Cumberbatch: 'Sherlock' Will Continue Until He's Too Famous!

Benedict Cumberbatch sits on a panel for his hit series Sherlock held during the PBS portion of the 2014 Winter TCA Press Tour on Monday afternoon (January 20) at the Langham Hotel in Pasadena, Calif.

The 37-year-old actor was joined on the panel by co-star Amanda Abbington to chat about the third season of the series and the future of the show.

“I’m fine with it. I’m going to keep going with it,” Benedict said (via THR) of doing more seasons, adding that “it’s a schedule-providing thing…I love it. I find it very invigorating.”

“It will continue until Benedict gets too famous,” executive producer Steven Moffat joked.
