Every 'Today Show' Host Ranked by Longest Tenure, Ranging From 1 Year to 20 Years

NBC’s Today has been on the air since the early 1950s and many of the show’s lead anchors have stuck around for many years!

Throughout the 71 years of the program’s history, there have only been 16 hosts who have sat in the lead anchor chairs. For the first 14 years of the run, there was only one lead anchor until Barbara Walters became a co-anchor and the show’s first female anchor.

Including current co-anchors Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie, eight men and eight women have served as the primary anchors on Today. While many of them have held roles on the show for years, we’re only counting their years as lead anchors for this ranking.

Tom Brokaw Is Retiring from NBC News After 55 Years

Tom Brokaw has announced that he will be retiring from NBC News after spending 55 years at the network.

The 80-year-old journalist served as the anchor and managing editor of NBC Nightly News from 1982 until 2004 and he has been part of the NBC News family in all the years since then.

Brokaw, who has been with NBC News since 1966, has also served as an anchor on Today and Meet the Press in the past.

“During one of the most complex and consequential eras in American history, a new generation of NBC News journalists, producers and technicians is providing America with timely, insightful and critically important information, 24/7. I could not be more proud of them,” he said in a statement.

The network says that Brokaw will continue to write books and be active in print journalism.

“We’re safe, and we were very, very impressed with the work of the NY Fire Department. It was close to the south floor of our building and it was fully involved by the time they got here,” Tom said.

“We were awakened by their presence, frankly. Our dogs began to bark and we realized, we looked down in our elevator area and the fire department was coming up.”

Two firefighters were reportedly injured and treated after rushing to put out the fire.

He said that the owners of the unit that caught on fire were a “wonderful family,” and “it could’ve been a lot worse. It was a great property loss for the family.”

“No damage to our unit. We got a little smoke. Really, it’s a cautionary tale about living in the danger of fire. But thank God for the New York Fire Department.”

Tom Brokaw Rips Into Sexual Misconduct Allegations: 'I Am Angry'

Tom Brokaw is firing back after being accused of sexual misconduct by a former news correspondent.

The 78-year-old journalist was accused of making unwanted advances by Linda Vester in a Variety exclusive on Friday (April 27).

Tom has since written a lengthy defense and denial of the accusations in an email obtained by The Hollywood Reporter on the same day.

“I am angry, hurt and unmoored from what I thought would be the final passage of my life and career, a mix of written and broadcast journalism, philanthropy and participation in environmental and social causes that have always given extra meaning to my life,” he wrote.

“I am facing a long list of grievances from a former colleague who left NBC News angry that she had failed in her pursuit of stardom. She has unleashed a torrent of unsubstantiated criticism and attacks on me.”

Tom Brokaw Accused of Sexual Misconduct by Former NBC Correspondent

UPDATE: Tom has further denied and denounced the allegations in an email. Read it here.

Tom Brokaw is being accused of sexual misconduct by a former NBC correspondent.

The 78-year-old journalist is accused of making unwanted advances by Linda Vester, according to Variety on Friday (April 27).

Linda alleges that Tom forcibly tried to kiss her, and groped her, in the early ’90s.

“I know when he assaulted me, which was the first week of January in 1994. I was in New York on assignment for Weekend Today. I was preparing to go back to Washington D.C., where I lived. And I was sitting at a borrowed desk, when I received a computer message from Tom Brokaw asking me what I was doing that night,” she said in a statement.

“I received three calls that night. One was from a friend. Another was from a source. And the third was from Tom Brokaw. He said he was coming over to order milk and cookies…I felt powerless to say no. He could ruin my career. I don’t recall saying,’Ok.’ I just remember being frozen. I went cold inside and started shaking. And I felt trapped because he was undeterred by anything I had said before. It wasn’t a request. He was insistent.”

Tom issued a statement in response to the allegations: “I met with Linda Vester on two occasions, both at her request, 23 years ago because she wanted advice with respect to her career at NBC. The meetings were brief, cordial and appropriate, and despite Linda‘s allegations, I made no romantic overtures towards her at that time or any other.”

Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt Open Up in 'Today' Interview (Video)

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are opening up about their lives in a rare interview with legendary journalist Tom Brokaw, which aired on The Today Show on Monday morning (November 2).

The 40-year-old actress and directer discussed how she used the same doctor to remove her ovaries who previously treated her late mother Marcheline Bertrand, who passed away in 2007.

“We had some of the same nurses, some of the same doctors,” Angelina said. “So, the doctor that did my ovary surgery was my mother’s doctor. And apparently my mother had said to her, ‘Promise me you will take Angie’s ovaries out.’ So when we kind of got together, we both had a big cry, and she said, ‘I promised your mother, and I gotta do this.’”

During the interview, Brad praised his wife’s bravery and courage.

“There was no vanity to my wife’s approach,” Brad said. “It was mature. ‘This is our life and we’re gonna make the best of it.’ There was a strength in that. It was just another one of those things in life that makes you tighter, and she was doing it for the kids, and she was doing it for her family so we could be together.”
