Despite early reports, MTV will not be canceling their TRL reboot.

Instead, the network plans to grow the franchise to include three different parts, according to president Chris McCarthy.

The regular afternoon edition will return in April as planned, and morning and late-night offshoots will also be launched, resulting in a three-times-per-day schedule beginning in the summer.

“It’s thriving. We’re expanding the franchise and will have three TRLs by summer. TRL has delivered incredible growth on linear and we’ve experienced two to three times the growth in our video streams and TRL is big piece of it — and that’s why we’re expanding it; we want more.”

Total Request Late-Night began airing on February 19, and will be expanded to four nights a week in the summer. Total Request A.M. will also launch in the summer, and will be “pure music play” without commercials, as well as a traditional video countdown and music performances.

UPDATE: TRL is not being canceled, after all. In fact, it’s expanding to three shows!

MTV’s Total Request Live relaunch is reportedly no more.

The network is canceling the TRL reboot according to an email sent to employees as of Wednesday (March 14), according to TMZ.

The reboot launched in October of 2017 after a hiatus of nearly nine years.

The show will not be returning in April as previously scheduled, according to the report. Instead, it will “pivot to short form content that will be featured on social and digital platforms.”

That said, after-shows will continue on for TRL, along with an upcoming after-show for Jersey Shore.

MTV’s Total Request Live reboot opened their first show on a somber note, paying tribute to those lost in the tragic Las Vegas shooting.

During the show’s premiere on Monday afternoon (October 2), hosts including Tamara Dhia and DC Young Fly and musical guest Ed Sheeran spoke out about the horrific event.

“Our hearts and prayers go out to the victims and their families. For us, it hits especially hard because it took place at a concert packed with people of all ages coming together to share a common bond – the love of music,” DC explained.

He continued, “So even though our hearts are hurting right now, we’re not going to let that stop us and break that bond. Instead we’re going to keep going and lift each other up.”

MTV’s hit show from the 90′s and early 2000′s, TRL (aka Total Request Live), is returning to the network in October!

Carson Daly will not return to hosting duties and the new show will feature a rotation of hosts. The show will air from a studio in Times Square in New York City, the New York Times reports.

TRL always featured celebrity guests – some famous past guests included Britney Spears, Beyonce, Christina Aguilera, Gwen Stefani, and many more.

8:00 PM – Beyonce looks so purty… Her voice is amazing live. The smoke machines and fans add to the special effects too. ;) Papa Knowles is doing a bit of headbanging. Cute.

8:05 PM – Singles Ladies!!!!! One of her dancers doesn’t seem up to par….

Olympic swimming hero Michael Phelps holds up a TRL-branded speedo at MTV Studios in Times Square on Wednesday in New York City.

In related news, Demi Moore and husband Ashton Kutcher have approached Phelps about doing a reality show.

“It will focus on Michael‘s new life and fame,” an insider tells Life & Style. “Demi and Michael were really chummy at the MTV Video Music Awards after-party in September. She and Ashton are amazed by how humble and down-to-earth he is. They think America will fall in love with him.”

One thing is certain: Michael, 23, is already in love with Demi and Ashton. “He loved Ashton‘s Punk’d show,” adds the insider. “And he’s had a crush on Demi since he was a kid!”

Kevin, Joe and Nick Jonas continue Jonas Brothers Fan Week with dance-pop star Lady GaGa at MTV’s Total Request Live at the MTV Times Square Studios on Tuesday in New York City. Their new album, A Little Bit Longer, dropped in stores TODAY.
