The 41-year-old former U.S. representative and former presidential candidate announced on Tuesday (October 11) that she is leaving the political party in a statement posted to her YouTube account.
In the video, she accuses the party of being controlled by an “elitist cabal of warmongers driven by cowardly wokeness.”
Tulsi Gabbard has dropped out of the race to become the next President of the United States.
The Hawaii representative made the announcement on Thursday (March 19), having garnered only two delegates during the Democratic primary contests to date.
“Today, I’m suspending my presidential campaign, and offering my full support to Vice President Joe Biden in his quest to bring our country together,” she said.
The Democratic race is officially between Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders.
“I and so many others enlisted in the military to do just that. Likewise today, as Americans and all of humanity, we face a common enemy. It is once again time, as Americans and as neighbors in this global community, that we stand together, and work hand in hand to defeat this new enemy — the coronavirus,” she went on to say.
“I feel that the best way that I can be of service at this time is continue to work for the health and well-being of people of Hawaii and our country in Congress, and stand ready to service in uniform should the Hawaii National Guard be activated.”
March 3 marks the most important day in the primary calendar: fourteen states and one territory in the United States are holding contests for the Democratic Party presidential candidate.
The polls are closing in the following states and territories throughout the course of the evening: Vermont, Virginia, North Carolina, Alabama, Tennessee, Texas, Oklahoma, Massachusetts, Maine, Arkansas, Colorado, Minnesota, Utah, California, American Samoa.
More than 1,300 delegates — about a third of the total — are up for grabs, marking a deciding factor in choosing the Democratic candidate for the 2020 presidential election who will go up against President Donald Trump.
