Jewel and her rodeo star husband Ty Murray have separated after six years of marriage.

The 40-year-old singer wrote a blog post explaining the situation.

“It is infinitely strange to write those words, especially considering the personal nature of the topic, which is the purpose of my writing today. But the truth is I have lived my life in the public eye since I was nineteen. And while it is intimidating to live a life in the public, it has also been a privilege to make a living with my words, my thoughts, my feelings,” Jewel wrote. “Which brings me to this highly personal announcement today. My husband, friend and partner of 16 years and I have decided to get a divorce.”

“For some time we have been engaged in a private and difficult, but thoughtful and tender undoing of ourselves. Allowing ourselves the time and space to redefine what we are to each other with love rather than malice,” Jewel explained.

Jewel and Ty Murray are the proud parents of a baby boy, JustJared.com can confirm.

The 37-year-old musician and star of Bravo’s Platinum Hit gave birth to Kase Townes Murray on Monday evening (July 11) in Texas, their rep confirmed to People.

“Ty and I are so pleased to welcome our new baby boy into the world,” Jewel told the mag. “We are overcome with happiness – it really is as great as everyone told us it would be – better even!”

This is the first child for both Jewel and Ty.

The 36-year-old singer and co-host of Bravo’s upcoming show Going Platinum is currently in her second trimester of her first pregnancy.

“I took a pregnancy test and it was positive!” Jewel told People. “It was so hard to keep it a secret. I was worried I’d start throwing up on set and everyone would be like, ‘Oh, she’s pregnant.’ ”

“We’re so excited to be expecting our first baby,” Ty, 41, added. “We always knew we wanted to have a child, and this time in our lives feels right.”
