Hoda Kotb Breaks Down After Reporting on Coronavirus Impact with Drew Brees in New Orleans on 'Today' (Video)

Hoda Kotb broke down in tears this morning on Today.

One day after Drew Brees and wife Brittany announced their donation of $5 million to the state of Louisiana for COVID-19 relief, the New Orleans Saints quarterback called into the Today show on Friday (March 27) and chatted with Hoda, who worked at a news station in New Orleans for six years in the ’90s, about the impact the virus has had on the state.

“The state of Louisiana thrives on small businesses,” Drew, 41, said. “We’re a hospitality state, and so many people have been affected by this around the country but especially in New Orleans. So when Brittany and I think about one of New Orleans’ [residents’] basic needs, that is to make sure that they and their family are fed and they can continue to sustain. So that’s where we wanted to start.”

“a lot of things are contagious, including generosity. Our hope is that because you let us know you made this big, generous donation, I think other people look and say, ‘Hey, maybe I can help out, too,’” Hoda told Drew towards the end of the interview.

“Drew, we love ya,” Hoda Kotb finished up, pivoting to tell the audience there was “a lot more” ahead before she broke down in tears, overcome with emotion.

“I’m so sorry, Hon,” said co-host Savannah Guthrie, who has been hosting the show from home since last week. “Take a moment. It’s a lot.”

Drew Brees Breaks Peyton Manning's Record for Most Touchdown Passes in NFL History

Peyton Manning has been dethroned – by Drew Brees!

The 40-year-old New Orleans Saints quarterback officially surpassed the 43-year-old former Indianapolis Colts and Denver Broncos quarterback’s record for most career touchdown passes in NFL history on Monday (December 16).

Drew made his third scoring pass of the night (a 5-yard pass to tight end Josh Hill during the third quarter), and 540th overall, beating the Colts by 34-7.

Peyton Manning retired following the 2015 season with 539 passing touchdowns.

Drew also made NFL history with a 96.7 completion percentage.

“Listen, it was special, everything about the night,” Drew Brees said (via ESPN). “I don’t know how they pick ‘em. Monday Night Football, playing the Colts, the team that we won the Super Bowl against 10 years ago. So the whole Super Bowl XLIV team is back for the 10th anniversary. And obviously national television, big game, and now that record in the balance as well. It just kind of makes you shake your head. ‘Are you kidding me?’”

Drew Brees Breaks Silence on 'No Call' That Possibly Affected Super Bowl 2019

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees is speaking out about the “no call” that referees missed during the 2019 NFC Championship game, which could very well have cost his team a trip to the 2019 Super Bowl.

If you don’t know, during the Saints’ playoff game against the Los Angeles Rams, with a Super Bowl trip on the line, referees missed a pivotal penalty that a Rams player made against a Saints player. Had that penalty been called in the Saints’ favor, the Saints could very well be going to the Super Bowl instead of the Los Angeles Rams.

“I’ve spent this last week navigating the heartache and disappointment from the game. Some things within our control and some outside our control that caused us to fall short. So much of our motivation is to represent the Who Dat Nation with determination and resiliency. We want to play for you, fight for you, and win for you. You deserve that,” Drew posted on Instagram.

“The longer I play I realize that we truly are one heartbeat with our fans. Our success is your success. Our disappointment is your disappointment. We are inspired by one another to accomplish things far greater than what we could ever do on our own,” Drew continued. “Everything that has ever happened to this community, we have bonded together, galvanized and leaped forward every time. The frustration we feel now can be channeled in the same way. Pour that passion and emotion into your families and communities. Inspire others with your focus & determination and positive outlook. This will make us stronger, this will bond us tighter, this will be a source for our success in the future. There is no place like New Orleans. There is no community like ours. No fans like the Who Dat Nation. I refuse to let this hold us down. I refuse to let this create any negativity or resentment. I embrace the challenge. So keep your chin up, hold your head high, puff your chest out because WE are the Who Dat Nation and WE will always persevere.”

Due to the lack of call, some celebs have spoken out about boycotting the Super Bowl including Harry Connick Jr.
