Taylor Swift's 'Daylight' Lyrics Include This Nod to 'Red'

The final song on Taylor Swift‘s new album Lover is called “Daylight” and it features a moment that is a nod to her album Red.

In the song, Taylor sings, “I once believed love would be burning red, but it’s golden like daylight.”

Fans think this line is a reference to something Taylor wrote in the liner notes for her album Red. She said, “And there’s something to be proud of about moving on and realizing that real love shines golden like starlight, and doesn’t fade or spontaneously combust. Maybe I’ll write a whole album about that kind of love if I ever find it. But this album is about the other kinds of love that I’ve recently fallen in and out of. Love that was treacherous, sad, beautiful, and tragic. But most of all, this record is about love that was red.”

“Daylight” is a hopeful song about how she has found true love after searching for it for so long.

In the final moments of the track, Taylor speaks in what seems to be a voice memo. She says, “I wanna be defined by the things that I love. Not the things I hate. Not the things that I’m afraid of, I’m afraid of/. Not the things that haunt me in the middle of the night. I, I just think that you are what you love.”
