'Jeopardy' Champ Brayden Smith's Cause of Death Revealed

Jeopardy champion Brayden Smith sadly passed away last week, which was a shock to many fans.

At the time of the announcement, there was no cause of death mentioned. However, it’s now reported that Brayden, who was just 24, passed away after complications from surgery.

His family, speaking to local news station KLAS, shared that Brayden was hospitalized days before and died following a procedure.

Hailed as Alex Trebek‘s last great champion, Brayden had a five-day winning streak of more than $115,000 and he qualified to return for the show’s annual Tournament of Champions.

“The ‘Jeopardy!’ family is heartbroken by the tragic loss of Brayden Smith,” the show shared in a statement about his unexpected passing. “He was kind, funny and absolutely brilliant. Our deepest condolences go out to Brayden’s family. He will be missed.”
