Recent 'Jeopardy' Champ Brayden Smith Dies Unexpectedly at 24

Brayden Smith, a recent contestant on Jeopardy who was a five-day champion, has died at the young age of 24.

Smith‘s mother announced on Twitter that he died on February 5 in his hometown of Las Vegas. She said, “We are heartbroken to share that our dear Brayden Smith recently passed away unexpectedly. We are so grateful that Brayden was able to live out his dream on @jeopardy.”

Brayden was one of the final people to play Jeopardy with the late Alex Trebek as the host. He had a five-day winning streak of more than $115,000 and he qualified to return for the show’s annual Tournament of Champions.

Trebek gave Brayden the nickname “Billy Buzzsaw” because of his impressive skills on the show.

Brayden graduated from UNLV last year and hoped to attend law school and become a U.S. attorney. Fans can make a donation in his name to benefit students in Nevada who want to further their education.
