There's a Reason Why Acceptance Speeches Aren't Being Cut Off at Oscars 2021

A very famous awards show trope is award winners getting played off stage mid-acceptance speech for running too long.

However, tonight at the 2021 Oscars, you may have noticed…no one is getting played off during their speech! In fact, some of the speeches are running a little longer than we are accustomed to!

Now, we’re learning the reason why.

Click inside to find out why acceptance speeches are not being cut off during the 2021 Oscars…

Questlove, the Oscars’ musical director, was told he is not allowed to cut off any acceptance speeches with his live DJ’ing. It was a producers decision.

Questlove told Variety, “The one thing I’m a little disappointed that I won’t be able to do is my favorite all-time thing, which is the play-off music when the speeches get too long. (Laughter) I’m not allowed to do that.”

He continued, “They were like, ‘No, you can’t interrupt speeches,’ so if [8-year-old Alan Kim from “Minari,” who cried when accepting a Critics’ Choice award last month] won Best Supporting Actor, I would just interrupt his speech. (Laughter) Not really. But one day I’ll cross that off the bucket list.”

Find out why Questlove‘s feet are going viral at the 2021 Oscars tonight!
